It's a family tradition - there are photos of me & my siblings at all ages in front of signs that my mother took wherever we happened to be at the time! ;-)crittoriahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04913343247347449375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168102153064280986.post-57490963372118464342008-06-22T21:55:00.000-04:002008-06-22T21:55:00.000-04:00Yes, I do that too! When he visits our HQ in Brussels, he shows pictures of beers and dishes he'd like to order. He did it at lunch time in NYC the other day, we were eating at Bxl, a Belgian café near TSq. He showed the owner the beer he wanted to order on his cellphone. Too funny.
Btw, great picture. Love the orange tones of the building.• Eliane •https://www.blogger.com/profile/17535070160739138725noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168102153064280986.post-30938555465013497162008-06-22T17:50:00.000-04:002008-06-22T17:50:00.000-04:00Gorgeous photo, Ming!Gorgeous photo, Ming!sonia a. mascarohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02415359150944729620noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168102153064280986.post-57156048629071186482008-06-21T09:43:00.000-04:002008-06-21T09:43:00.000-04:00The videographer in me wants to put a small fill (...The videographer in me wants to put a small fill (light) on the street signs so badly.

I must be obsessive compulsive or something...geez.

Thinking a reflector...maybe a small handhell fill with battery pack....hmm...

Would prolly have taken away from the shadowy mood anyway.

Ha.

B.www.DeltaMovies.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05350068353751202213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168102153064280986.post-3807054963584200222008-06-20T15:20:00.000-04:002008-06-20T15:20:00.000-04:00Ming...nicely done...does Beach St take you to Con...Ming...nicely done...does Beach St take you to Coney Island? :)Dorothyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03369948264736239411noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168102153064280986.post-889332422484937542008-06-20T11:05:00.000-04:002008-06-20T11:05:00.000-04:00Gee, I thought I was the only one who shot photos ...Gee, I thought I was the only one who shot photos to remind me of where I was and such. . . or that shot photos of street names.

Actually, when I owned the store (Paper Moon), I would shoot anything that had "MOON" in its title/name. . . .streets, restaurants, stores, buildings, billboards, etc. I had a huge bulletin board on the wall in the store where I displayed them.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03668974472490049992noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168102153064280986.post-78973648920391704952008-06-20T03:20:00.000-04:002008-06-20T03:20:00.000-04:00Nice shot. Then I looked it up on Wikipedia and got my answer....

Named for Paul Bache, the son-in-law of Anthony Lispenard, who owned Lispenard Meadows, just south of what is now Canal Street. Beach - in this case - is an Americanization of Bache, and the street was the first street carved out of the Lispenard farm at the end of the 18th Century.NormanTheDoxiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16082529624302281198noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168102153064280986.post-13716290344970732542008-06-19T12:17:00.000-04:002008-06-19T12:17:00.000-04:00I have always liked the way street signs looked wh...I have always liked the way street signs looked when I was downtown.

Standing on a street corner and looking up at a post with two. names on it just seemed special.

I guess that's why everything below W 4th seemed so darned coolNYDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17182735945473879595noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168102153064280986.post-55726612704580994352008-06-19T12:15:00.000-04:002008-06-19T12:15:00.000-04:00Hi Ming! Many times I've shot plaques with explanations to help with captioning later. Second best is recording a memo, in camera when possible ... loved the Canon 1Ds for that feature ... wish the 5D had it. Third choice is making written notes, which I often can't read later or don't know for sure which frame the represent.
