Hula Hoop Dancer

I was at Washington Square this weekend for a live concert by Buzzuniverse when I saw this girl dancing with a hula hoop to the music. Notice the fence on the right. There are major reconstructions going on at Union Square including the relocation of the famous fountain in the middle of the park. Local residents are up in arms over the move accusing the city of dubious intent.

So have you ever danced with a hula hoop?

San Gennaro Feast @ Little Italy

The weather on Sunday was simply perfect -- it was dry, sunny and cool. I headed downtown to meet some friends for lunch and we came upon the San Gennaro Feast in Little Italy. Actually the music was what alerted us to the street fair. There was at least a mile of booths selling food and drinks, games and candies, and there was even a stage where a live band was playing.

The Trecels, a cover band that played mostly doo-wop music from the 50s and 60s, were excellent. We stayed for both sets of the concert and swayed to songs like Teenager in Love and Why Do Fools Fall in Love. Some audience even went up to the front and danced, like the couple in this photo. All in all, it was a wonderful Sunday.

So what kind of music do you like?

Soul Train with The Cauldron / YouTube Addiction

I saw a fabulous new band called The Cauldron at my neighborhood cafe last Saturday. The band rocked the place down with some great soul music and Top 40 hits. My favorite part of the evening was when they sang one of my favorite songs, Crazy by Gnarls Barkley, which got me up on my feet and dancing with the crowd.

That brings us to my addiction to YouTube, the ubiquitous video website where the most interesting videos around the world are posted. Because of YouTube, I have discovered some of the best music (and videos) in the world. Here are some of my favorites: Je Viens du Sud by Chimene Badi; Donne by Myriam Abel; Intoxication by Gentleman; Perfect Harmony by Wang LeeHom, Rain & J-Lim; Feel Good Inc. by Gorillaz; Kung Fu Fighting by Fatboy Slim; I Don't Love You Enough by Andy Lau & Kelly Chen; No Mes Ames by Jennifer Lopez & Mark Anthony.

What are your favorite songs?
