This is the skyline of the most expensive real estate properties in Brooklyn, otherwise known as Brooklyn Heights. The photo was taken from South Street Seaport on the lower east side of Manhattan.
A one-bedroom co-op apartment here goes for about $475,000 while a one-family townhouse can cost over $8,000,000. Despite the exorbitant prices, they are considered affordable compared to how much it costs to live in some desirable neighborhoods in Manhattan.
The only places where real estate is more expensive than New York City are London and Tokyo.
Wow...I had no idea they were so pricey. And we thought it was spendy here...not even close!

Sheeeeeesh. So the kid I bought a lemonade from on a toney Brooklyn Hts street, at his lemonade stand in front of his family 3-4 storey brownstone was probably helping with the mortgage???

Those are expensive places to live and I would not fit in well with people who get $400 haircuts like John Edwards. LOL

Yes, NYC is a very expensive place to live but there are many affordable housing in less popular neighborhoods in the city.

glenn - I don't know much about Pacific Heights so I can't tell you if Brooklyn Heights is comparable to it. As for celebrities, Jennifer Connelly & Paul Bettany and Heath Ledger & Michelle Williams live in Prospect Park, which is not far from Brooklyn Heights.

ReplyDeleteIn our southern U.S. river-town, it is not hard to find a 3000 s.ft. home on the river, bayou, or lake, with it's on peers and docks, immaculately landscaped, etc..starting around the $200k mark.
NYC realestate does seem a bit inflated though...still if I had the spare change, it's no question that I would have a NY vacation apartment! ha!

Oh, I like that view. The thing is, Brooklyn Heights has always been expensive. The oldest homes were built as mansions for the Wall Street robber-barons who commuted to work by ferry. Of course, today they just sit in their hot tubs and commute via some sort of wireless connection. At least, that's what I imagine them doing. Jealous? Who, me?
