This gaucho grill was one of the food ventors at the street fair on Greenpoint Avenue and 48th Street in Sunnyside, Queens. I believe these meats on the spit are skirt steaks and they are served with boiled potatoes covered in salt and plantains (fried green bananas).
I'm not a fan of grilled steak but I do love a good juicy burger. What is your meat of choice?
NY Strip is mine but bbq ribs also work for me.
ReplyDeleteWow, your pic today has set my mouth watering.
Lamb chops! Yummy!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's tough - I'm trying to eat less red meat - but, I do love a really good steak!!!
ReplyDeleteHam would be my favorite.
You know when I come up to NYC I will want to go there - that looks so good...I love plantains!!! Both green and ripe! They are both very different.
I'll take a good sirloin and some meaty pork ribs. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm a typical American I guess; I love all kinds of meat. Give me a NY Strip steak anytime, BUT DH and I are trying to cut down because of the way farm animals are treated and slaughtered. Oh, dear! What a dilemma!
ReplyDeletenothing beats a nice, fat burger.
ReplyDeleteAh Ming, you've made me hungry now!
ReplyDeleteI love plantains. I'd love to try it with this grilled steak. I bet it's delicious!

Heavenly day Ming!...if I didn't know this was on the streets of New York, I would think it on the range out west, or something the Vikings might have eaten :)For steak...a nice Filet Mignon...or...a juicy burger would do quite nicely.. A great photo never-the-less...
ReplyDeletei love bbq ribs! anytime! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm asking for a small cut of grilled steak! Sometimes, it's the portions that puts me off. Good juicy burger sounds good too :)
ReplyDeleteI had one of these in Buenos Aires and that was an experience...
ReplyDeleteNowadays I'm less ans les a beef eater; but I make a lamb tagine on some winter sundays that people don't complain...
Sorry Ming... no meat for me.
ReplyDeleteHow about a veggi burger?
Mmm..I love all steaks and ribs!! I could never be a vegetarian for just that reason.
ReplyDeleteSometimes they serve it with a chopped fresh cabbage salad too. That is my favorite street fair lunch vendor. I seek them out when I see a street fair in progress...
ReplyDeletepretty much any meat.
