This is a regular summer scene on Greeley Square, a small triangular plot of space bordered by 32th Street, 6th Avenue and Broadway in midtown Manhattan. Around the square is one of the busiest intersections for automobile and pedestrian traffics in the city. If you have been to the gigantic Macy's store on 34th Street and Broadway, you will understand that this is an oasis tugged inside a concrete jungle.
A year and a half ago, I posted
a winter scene (January) of the same square. It looked very different from the photo above because of the cold weather, i.e. few greeneries or people around.
So are you happy summer is almost over and the cold weather is approaching? I am! I love cold weather. :-)
Noooooooooooooooooooooo! I love having the sun shine until 9 o'clock at night! Fall is great too, but I find the short days and long nights fairly depressing. Everything is cool until after New Year's. Then January and February suck.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture, Ming. I was at Macy's yesterday, but did I get this shot??? (That would be a big "no.")
ReplyDeleteActually, last time I was in Greeley Square (long time ago), it was just me and a couple of rats!
Hmmm, am I glad winter is almost over and the warmer weather is approaching (since I'm on the other side of the globe LOL!)? Yes. I love getting up early and getting everything done but I just can't drag myself out of bed in the winter. Plus it means I can start riding my horses again!!! =)
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm a princess. I like the temperature to be "just right". Spring is probably my favorite time, with warming days, lengthening light, and vegetation refreshed from the winter rains.
ReplyDeletej'adore ce petit square, avec cette immense statue de mr Greeley (j'avoue ne pas savoir qui est cet homme ?)
ReplyDeleteI love this little square, with this huge statue of Greeley mr (I admit to not knowing who is this man?)
Nice shade!!!...
ReplyDeleteI like to see the people.
ReplyDeleteI love summer but it comes a point when I dream to wear a cosy soft cachemere jumper, sipping a good espresso coffee looking out at a threatening gray sky!
This is a great scene, Ming. YOu really captured the feel of this place. I enjoyed looking at everyone. I love spring and summer best. Fall brings SEC football and winter? Nah.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a really nice place. And I loathe winter and cold.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful spot...summer and winter:)
ReplyDeleteThis place reminds me my first day in NY this summer...
ReplyDeleteIt was so strange to be in this area which is so quiet in the middle of the urban jungle...
I enjoy winter and its cold days but they are too short for me. I need more light...
I'm so ready for summer to be gone. Between hurricanes and humidity Florida can be taxing this time of year.
ReplyDeleteMing what kind of camera do you use? The depth of field focus on this shot seems amazing to me.
Thanks,
Anon - I have a three-year old Canon PowerShot 540. It's almost on its last lag so I may be getting a new one soon.
ReplyDeletei love cold weather, i can't wait until the winter.
ReplyDeleteAutumn is my favorite time of year. So yes, I'm looking forward to that. Not winter so much, though.
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! That scene looks like a totally different place in winter!! I much prefer the busy-ness of the warm weather.
ReplyDeleteWe're just coming out of winter here, so I'm soooo looking forward to spring and sunshine - BRING IT ON!!!! :o)
