This is a macro shot of a simple flower arrangement at a Thai restaurant on Court Street between 3rd and 4th Place in Brooklyn where I had dinner with a friend last week. The small pink bloom with yellow center is probably about 3/4 of an inch across.
My iPhone died on Monday night. Since I don't have a land line at home, I had to wait till I got to the office on Tuesday morning to call the 1-800 tech support hotline to for advice. Unfortunately, nothing can be done so I will have to make an appointment to visit one of the tech support guys at the Genius Bar inside the Apple Store.
It feels weird not to have a cell phone (or a telephone, in general) available even though I have no need to call anyone right now. My only access to the outside world now is the internet. Please, please, please....don't let my internet connection fail before I get my iPhone working again.
I feel soooo vulnerable. Have you ever felt so lost?

I've never had a mobile phone, but I know what a power outage is like. It's a reminder of how much time we spend with electronic inventions to fill our hours.
When I first moved to D.C. and started driving around the metropolitan area, I used to get as lost as a person can lost. Fortunately, I found Jesus and all is well. ;-)
so simple & so pretty; it's very tough not to be connected - hope iPh gets fixed quick!
belle photo, très poétique, j'aime beaucoup le titre de ton post.
beautiful picture, very poetic, I love the title of your post.
What a looooovely photo! I love macros, unfortunately I don't have such a good camera...:-(
I hope you can fix the phone quickly!
Yes I felt so lost when my camera broke a few days before leaving for Paris... Luckily it was fixed in time...!
That feeling of being uncontactable (and unable to make contact yourself) is overwhelming isn't!
Hope your iPhone is fixed asap :o)
I LOVED your shot in the Reflections on 5th Avenue post. Its beautiful.
I lost my cell phone once, and yeah, it's a creepy feeling. Its not until you don't have it taht you realize just how dependent you are on it! Hope you get your phone back soon.
I am not addicted to my cell phone. Rarely use it or charge it. Now this computer is another story. I would be at the Apple Store in a Mobile minute banging on the door. You took a great macro here Ming. Good job.
Poor you! After the last big blackout, I vowed to get an old-fashioned landline. I never did, of course, but your post reminds me of why I should.

Yes, its frustrating when these things fail. We rely on phones, internet etc so much.
good bokeh
Yes, I felt that dis-connected feeling recently when staying overnight in Glacier NP. Definite withdrawal symptoms. I had to resort to using (gasp!) a pay-phone and overpriced calling card to make rendezvous arrangements for the next day ... then because the call began and ended within the same state AND was emanating from a pay-phone, my stated 30 minute ATT calling card had an effective 4 minute yield. Bah! Give me my electronic conveniences!!
You caught the light and shadow on those petals so nicely, Ming.
Cell phones are good for emergencies away from home, but sometimes I think we are over-connected. I tell my staff that they can call my cell, but it had better be a hair-on-fire emergency.
Hope your phone gets fixed quickly!
Its so pathetic how we have let ourselves be controlled almost by a phone! I totally understand how you feel. When I was away from my kids all night and in a remote area where the only reception was up on top of a hill next to a silo, I felt pretty twitchy thinking, "what if they're trying to call me?" Funny, because 20 years ago we didn't rely on these things so heavily. Now if I drive to the grocery store without my phone, like I did the other day, I freaking turn around and go back home to get it .
How sad is that!!
I live on island with a mobile phone that has a life of it's own, an internet server that pleases itself and a landline that has hissy fits. I am lost most of the time.
The macro is beautiful. The detail in those petals is superb.
First your mojo now your phone. Maybe I ain't doing so bad afterall.
Beautiful photo! I think I know what you mean about the phone. I left the house in hurry one morning and forgot my cell phone. I felt lost and out of touch all day which was silly, because when I got home, now one had called.
I don't have mobile coverage where I live, so I'm not all that reliant on my mobile. It is very frustrating when our phone (landline) goes out though, and electricity too. We once went without electricity for a week straight. We didn't have any alternatives, at that time we didn't have a generator. It was summer and we had to keep the fire going to boil water and cook food, so we practically lived outside. And the phone went out for about four days. PLUS the road was shut both ways out because of the fire, so we were trapped...I still don't know what we ate, it was tough times! We had two freezers full of meat and it all went off and we had to throw it out. YERK!
Lovely photo. I hope you're able to get your phone fixed asap.

doesn't not having a phone feel kind of liberating?
I left my iphone at home a few weeks ago and felt the same way.... so unconnected to the world.
As you know, I was at the Apple store 2 weeks ago and they swapped my phone for a new one.
Beautiful shot! I say dump the iPhone and join the Sidekick generation!
lovely picture and I like your Blog
