Another Snow Day

We are expecting over 3 inches (7.6 cm) of snow in the morning. I'm hoping (praying actually) for a snow day so I don't have to go in to work. I want to sleep in till 10 AM and have a lazy breakfast at the local diner.

So what would you do if you had a snow day or an unexpected day off from work?

Tree Huts

Wasp & Cicada

I saw this wasp carrying a cicada up the tree outside my apartment building last weekend. Upon further research, I found out that it was a cicada killer wasp that preys primarily on cicadas. Incidentally, I heard the cicadas singing outside my office last recently. I guess it's cicada season.

So have you ever heard of a cicada song?

Tree Trunk

This is a macro shot of a tree trunk bordering Central Park on 5th Avenue on the Upper East Side. I don't know what kind of tree it is but every tree here has this interesting eruption of bark that gives it an interesting character. It makes it look old and wrinkled.

So if someone were to label you with an adjective or two (or three), what word(s) would that be?

Flowering Tree

I don't know the name of this flowering tree but it stands about 10 feet tall and is covered with these white palm sized blooms. It doesn't have any fragrance -- not that I could detect it. But I love the unusual green and white colors together.

Lately, I have been noticing (i.e. taking more than just a glance at) trees. I found that I love dwarf Japanese maples and fragrant peony shrubs. So do you have a favorite tree or plant?

Tree Silhouette

I saw this REAL tree at Union Square that looked somewhat similar to the STEEL tree by Roxy Paine that I posted last month. I also love the silhouette against the blue sky.

So do you usually look up towards the sky?
