New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2009

New York Fashion Week began last Friday and will run through till next Sunday. Yesterday evening, I attended the Anna Sui runway show at Bryant Park courtesy of a friend who knows someone who works for Anna Sui -- talk about networking, huh?!? Because of the low light inside the tent, most of my photos didn't come out great. I gave up after a dozen or so shots and decided to just enjoy the show instead.

So do you network much? I'm not good with network and meeting new people especially in a crowd. I do better one-on-one.

NB: For more photos of the runway show, click on the companion blog, The Making of New York City Daily Photo.

that guy in the glasses to the left looks like someone famous, hmmm, I can't remember from where though.
I never network. I don't even really know what it means, so maybe I do & don't realize it.

I think your photos are nice.

Ah, you're so money Ming. ;)
Nice pictures!

I am like you: I hate networking. Especially at work, when you have a cocktail with tons of clients. Absolutely hate that. If I knew the elegant formula to avoid it all together, I would use it constantly.

I think networking is just developing connections with people with whom you might offer mutual assistance because you both seem "okay", or are the "right sort". I don't think it pretends to be close, personal friend making, which it isn't. It's probably an extension of the age old human impulse to recognize clan connections. But very often we get nice advantages from our real friends too. 8^) I'm not much of a politician myself, so I don't work the crowd much either.

it's funny, i was just talking about this with my co-worker but i HATE having to network through work. if i'm under a forced situation, i tend to just shut down and not give a fuck.

and i'm glad you enjoyed the show. i thought the collection was pretty BLAH this season.

i want to get a digital SLR but i'm so broke that it'll probably take me a few years to purchase one.

Oh Ming, you've surpassed yourself. I adore this photo. The movement of the model and the attention of the onlookers - love the lady looking at her portable television and not the girls! Love this photo.

Yes I network all the time - with the dogs...

un bel événement, merci de nous le faire partager. pas facile de faire des photos sous une tente avec beaucoup de spots, mais je trouve que tu t'en sors très bien. tu as du passer une bonne soirée.

a beautiful event, thank you for us to share. not easy to make pictures in a tent with a lot of spots, but I think you're doing very well. you have to spend a good evening.

jily just made my comment, actually: I was mostly struck by that woman (in the front row, no less) paying more attention to her blackberry than to the model coming down the runway . Ming, I appreciate your frustration with the low-light conditions, but this is still a great photo.
I can "network" when I have to, but don't enjoy it and am better at it when alcohol is provided.

Ming, this is a great photo! I love the motion of the model. And look - everone's in a black uniform! I guess black is the new black.

Ming 1, I think this is a great photo. You really nailed it. Being a former teacher, there's no real networking involved, to say the least. I can pretty much talk the ears off a mule at any cocktail party though. I can see how work/client situations might get really old. I am always just tickled to death to be out and about.

Watching the audience seems to be almost more fun that watching the models. ;)

I've never been good at making small talk with almost strangers — my fingers are much more 'talkative' than my tongue — so I can't really enjoy networking socials.

I don't do small talk! Networking - maybe if you call being in a quilting guild and a knitting group networking.

Say, I mentioned you on my blog a couple of Tuesdays ago - don't know if you saw that...

I like this photo. I wish I could go to one these shows sometime. It must be fun. I'll have to work on my network.

Lucky you!

I'm with you on the networking thing... better one of one for me too.

You're so lucky to have seen the show in person. That is one of my favorite shows so far (I saw the pics on style.com).

I'm terrible at networking. I'm sooo not gifted at small talk. I can never think of anything to say to strangers. My boyfriend though can talk to anyone anywhere about anything.
