No Bikes Allowed

The little sign on the railing clearly stated,"No Bikes Allowed" and yet there are two bikes leaning on it with a third parked in front of the other two. So is happening here? This is actually an impromptu site for a bicycle rental service at Columbus Circle by the exit of the subway station. Ever since the city added bike lanes onto most major avenues up and down Manhattan, bike rental businesses (for tourists) have been popping up everywhere.

So when was the last time you rode a bike? I think I rode a bike about 4 years ago when I rented one to ride around Central Park. Going down the hill was definitely easier than going up one.

The Other Unisphere

This is the other Unisphere in New York City. The original Unisphere, which I posted on August 1st, is located in Flushing Meadows Park in Queens and is probably a few times larger than this one.

When I was in high school, there was another kid who looked very much like me, especially from the behind. My friends called my doppelganger the other me.

Columbus Circle

I took this photo from the third floor of the inside of the Time Warner Center. In the photo, you can see Columbus Circle and 59th Street, which is the southern perimeter of Central Park. The Time Warner Center has a shopping mall, restaurants, offices and condominiums. It is one of the few shopping centers in the city.

Cellist Video Shoot

I saw this video shoot for a cellist at Columbus Circle this past weekend. When I started taking photos of the group, the guys behind the cameraman started forming a circle around the cellist and cameraman. I don't know if they were trying to block my view or they just happened to move around and inadvertently blocked my view. Nonetheless, if someone had come up to me and told me I can't photograph them, I would have apologized and put my camera away.

So has this ever happened to you?

N.B.: Does anyone recognize the cellist? Is he someone famous?

Maine Monument at Southwest Corner of Central Park

This is a photo of one of the statues at the base of the Maine Monument located at the south west entrance of Central Park. The monument, created by Italian sculptor Attilio Piccirilli in 1913, was commissioned by the city to honor the merchants who contributed to the success of New York City.

This area of New York City is called Columbus Circle, named after the explorer, Christopher Columbus. Lori of MissBinNYC has a spectacular night photo of the Columbus Circle monument.
