Easter Lily

This is a macro shot of the stamen and stigma of an Easter Lily bloom from the Rockefeller Center. There are hundred of Easter Lilies lining the flower beds at the Promenade there.

St. Patrick's Cathedral & Atlas

This photo was taken from behind Atlas (installed in 1937) and looking upwards across 5th Avenue at St. Patrick's Cathedral (completed in 1878). The two glass buildings on both sides of the statue is part of Rockefeller Center.

So what did you have for dinner last night?

Prometheus! Who? Prometheus!

His name is Prometheus and he sits on top of a rock overlooking the ice rink at Rockefeller Center in midtown. He is probably the second most photographed statue in New York City, after the Statue of Liberty, of course.

So is second best good enough?

Is Spring Here Yet?

I took this photo yesterday at the promenade by the Rockefeller Center on 50th Street off of 5th Avenue. The weather was almost 60°F (15°C), which was probably the warmest day of the year so far. The greenery planted around the fountains gave a hint of Spring coming but we are expecting another cold front and snowy weather this weekend.

So are you ready for Spring? I am having Spring Fever!!

Rockefeller Center @ Night

Even though this photo was taken last weekend, it still felt like Christmas to me because of the thousands of lights wrapped around the trees. The building in the photo is 30 Rockefeller Plaza or 30 Rock, which is now the title of a TV-series.

Angels @ Rockefeller Center

Christmas Decorations

Last night, I went to the Rockefeller Center to take some photos. The building with the snow flake lights in the background is the famous departmental store, Saks Fifth Avenue. The lighted angels with trumpets are located on the walkway leading to the ice rink at the Rockefeller Center.

So how was your weekend?

Librairie de France

This French bookstore, Librairie de France at the Rockefeller Center sells only French books and magazines. Even the logo for the store has that French street sign look. I hear Paris has a famous English language only bookstore called the Shakespeare & Co.

So do you have a favorite bookstore in your city?

Coin Fountain

This photo was taken at one of the fountains at Rockefeller Center. It seems like people were tossing coins into the fountain hoping their wishes would be granted. I tossed some Italian liras into the Trevi Fountain when I was a 10-year old boy. My wish was to visit Rome again in the future. So far, the wish hasn't come true yet.

Time Flies

I saw this clock with wings in a store window display of Anthropologie at Rockefeller Center recently and I loved it. Time really flies when you are having fun.

So what do you do for fun? I love to sleep so every chance I get, I try to sleep as much as possible.

Rockefeller Building & The Christmas Tree

I wasn't the only one there to see the Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center. I went, I saw and I left. I am not a fan of crowded places.

Rockefeller Christmas Tree

The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree was unveiled on Wednesday night to great funfair and excitement. According to news reports, the 8 tons, 60-year old, 84 feet tall Norway spruce was decorated with 5 miles or 30,000 pieces of energy-efficient lights called light emitting diodes (LEDs). The LEDs use up to 60% less energy than regular light bulbs. In addition, the tree will be recycled as lumber for Habitat for Humanity after the Christmas season is over.

Skating Rink @ Rockefeller Center

Ice skating at the Rockefeller Center Rink is a winter tradition for many New Yorkers and tourists alike. Each year between October and April, the artificial ice rink is open to the public from 8:30 AM to midnight. However, skating here can get pretty expensive. Ice skate rentals cost $7.50 per person and admissions are $10 - $14 for adults and $7.50 - $8.50 for children under 11 and seniors. The rink gets extremely crowded during weekends and holidays so the best times to skate are Mondays through Thursdays.

The gilded statue in the background is Promethius, a smart and cunning Titan who, according to Greek mythology, stole fire from Zeus and gave it to the mortals because of his love for humanity. As a result, the word prometheous refers to someone or something bold and creative.
