New York Fashion Week & The Sartorialist

New York Fashion Week, the biannual spectacle of expensive clothes and beautiful people, descended on Bryant Park this past weekend. For the next 10 days or so, every local and foreign newspapers and television shows will be reporting on who and what is being sent down the runways. This event is a huge contributer to the city's economy, as well as a major tourism advertisement for the city.

So this week, I will be bringing you photographs from the New York Fashion Week.

The gentleman in this photo is Scott Schuman, the professional photographer/blogger who writes The Sartorialist. He is also a regular contributer for GQ magazine and Style.com. The brilliance and originality of Mr. Schuman work is that he photographs regular people (well, okay...beautiful people) on the street who examplify fashion and style around the world.

I was standing outside the Bryant Park tents, where the fashion shows are being held, when I spotted Mr. Schuman walking up the street . I snapped this paparazzi-style photo before running up to say "HI!! I'm your biggest fan!" I asked and he consented to a couple more photographs but none of them turned out as well as this first shot. He is definitely a snazzy dresser.

So what is the most expensive piece of garment you ever bought for yourself?

are you a very fashion conscious new yorker? hehe...

keropokman - Almost everyone in NYC are fashion conscious. Plus we all don't want to be mistaken as tourists. :-) We love tourists but we don't want to dress like them.

I've seen his blog, it's so cool... but this photo is a little bit scary... uuoooh...
I don't know how to answer your question, I don't like to spend much money in fashion... so maybe a coat or something like that is my expensive purchase... ;)

to say that a few years ago this same park was a reference mark of dealer… thank you at the town of NYC to have it to save. it must be super, a procession with bryant park.

it is true you do not look at Super Bowl??????. you are really American; O)))

why do these fashion types always wear black?

Ming the Merciless said...

blueboat - Here are a few reasons. (1) Black matches with every other colors. You can dress it down with jeans or dress it up with other dark colors. (2) Black hides dirt very well. If you take the subway or taxi or just walk to and from work, you learn very quickly never to wear light colored outfit. (3) Black is very slimming and flattering.

well ok, fair point(s). But I still think it's a bit chicken, after all, with access to all those fabulous clothes and still wear a uniform of black... I much prefer those madwomen of fashion (isabella blow etc.) - at least they seem to be having bit of fun with it..

blueboat - I agree with you. We should all dress the way we are comfortable with. Isabelle Blow looks great, but you have to admit, not everyone can dress like she does. :-)

I've heard before that wearing black will decrease the chances of one being "pickpocketed"...? ahahah
Coz you will not stand out in the crowd and "attract" unwanted attention....wonder if it's true?
Oh, 2 traits - wear black and walk fast.
Interested in fashion pix! *waiting*

I'm also looking forward to your fashion photos! Your previous link to the Sartorialist was my first visit to his site and I just love it. It is not easy to walk up to strangers and have them agree to have their photo taken. I think I've spent the most money on shoes (one pair in particular and many pairs total).

Love his blog but he definitely looks scary. Well done for asking for a photo.
Most expensive garment: wedding dress, no question.
