Takashi Murakami at Gagosian Gallery

I have been a big fan of Japanese artist, Takashi Murakami's work since he exhibited his sculptures in front of the Rockefeller Center a couple years ago. This month, his art work is being exhibited at the Gagosian Gallery in the Upper East Side.

Takashi Murakami is probably most famous for his cartoon work and hangbag design for the Louis Vuitton label. He has frequently been compared to Andy Warhol because of his commentaries on consumerism and pop culture through his art work.

Cool paintings - the first one looks rather eerie though! Can't wait to visit some of the other galleries and museums you've mentioned when I'm next in NY....as well as a return peek at MoMA of course ;o)

A good week, Ming. Nice insights to NY's pleasures.

Tks for commenting on my "cat's window". I've left a comment there.....plus something extra "just for you" in todya's post.

Hey, Ming,
I prefer this to Monet and Pollock anytime!

I wonder how much his work sells for? That makes a big difference.

I like what I can see of his work that you captured so well in this photograph.

He seems like a kind of "minimalist" to me— one who does little but makes a lot.

I spent three years in Japan and always enjoyed the art and enjoyed the illustrations in books.

If I ever make it to the Big Apple I'd spend half the time in museums and galleries.

I got into his stuff back in the mid-90s when I was in college. But these paintings look a bit different from what he's done before...

His work here looks quite compelling. Thanks for the introduction to him (I guess my saying that gives you the clue that I don't own a Louis Vuitton item).

He certainly has a great sense of art. It would be awesome if I could go there. I love seeing painting and artpiece. The last time I've been to a gallery was the one in Suria KLCC.

I always enjoy art galleries, even if I'm not a huge fan of what I see. Great link.
