Hot Summer Day

Sunday afternoon was warmer than usual so after a nice brunch in the Village, I walked by Washington Square and saw a large group of people hanging out by the fountain. Most of them were basking in the sun but some dipped their feet in the water while a few college kids played under the fountain spray.

I took my shoes off and gingerly dipped my feet into the cold water. Aaaah....it felt like heaven. With my feet in the fountain, I sat back and leisurely read my book entitled Vroom with a View by Peter Moore, recommended by Belinda of Bel's Fish Bowl.

To see a photo of me in the fountain, click here.

So do you have any recommendations or tips for cooling down during a hot day? Or to warm up during a cold day (for those in the Southern Hemisphere)?

Cooling down would be a lot easier here if we had a wonderful walk-in fountain like this. Otherwise, you just have to jump in the river!

The foutain is the best place to cold down where you are in the city.
The best way to cold down is visit shops with fridges. You can watching what is inside and get a chill. It's working.

Very pleased to know you(r feet) better!

No problem with hot or cold weather; I like both! Feet in the water during hot days, warm socks in the winter... There is always a way to enjoy any weather (except some extremes of course)!

Looks like great fun. Love the photo of you - you are just as I imagined, Ming!

And thanks for mentioning Vroom with a View. I'd not heard of it but have now read about it and know it's just my cuppa tea and will be ordering it. I love it when friends recommend books - a book recommendation is the gift of pleasure.

I am a fountain junkie...I can;t stay out of them...

though here's a note to you, the fountain at Rockefeller Center is way deeper than it looks, also...they don;t like it when people go in that one too much...I was "removed" by an officer.

Nice photograph. I love dipping my legs into the fountain. It's making me feeling much better in this killing hot weather.

Usually I will eat icecream, or hiding myself at home, or going some air-conditioned shopping center, lazing around in the coffeeshop. :D

It depends. Cooling down in natural way = the fountain. There's one here in Piazza Castello (less or more like that one) where kids / dogs... Adults (me too) love spray of it.

Of course air cond it's the most popular "other" way and who doesn't have it or teens that love stay altogether go to waht you Americans call: Mall ("Centro commerciale" in italian).

Last but not least thank you to Belinda and you about that book's recommendation. I'm curious to read it :-)

What a great photo! Very nice place indeed!

To cold down I think would be great to drink a Coca Cola Light with much ice seating under a big crown tree! To warm up maybe a very hot mug full of coffee with milk (café com leite).

Hey, nice feet!

I was downtown today in the heat. Pretty oppressive.

I eat popsicles to cool off.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! And if that isn't available, a fan is always nice.

Sno-cones! I think some places they're called shaved ice. They do a brisk business here!

It is pouring with rain here in Perth, Western Australia, so it's nice to see the sunshine in your photo Ming - thanks!

Glad you're enjoying Vroom with a View too. A friend of mine is travelling around Italy at the moment, and I gave her my copy to read - she's since passed it onto 2 others in her travelling group and they're buying as many Kinder Surprises as possible along the way (this'll make more sense as you progress through the books!) :oP

It is ridiculously hot and humid today and I wish I had my feet in the fountain right now.

Yesterday I thought my rubber flip-flops were going to melt right into the hot sidewalk. I passed a tiny man who was watering the little patch of green in front of an apartment building and asked him, via smiles & hand gestures, to water my feet.

I held up my pants and the man complied. What refreshment! We both laughed and I happily squish, squish, sqished all the way home.
