The Chrysler Building (1930) is only half a block away from the Grand Central Station (1903) on 42nd Street. The buildings were built only 27 years apart but they couldn't be any more different. The Chrysler Building was made of steel and glass in the Art Deco style while the Grand Central Station is mostly concrete and bricks built in the Beaux Arts style. Here is a photo of both buildings. They are like step-sisters, both from the same family but from different pedigrees.Do you have any siblings? How different are you from him/her/them?

Two of my favourite Manhattan buildings, yet as you say, so different. My dream was to see the Chrysler building but now you can only glimpse the elevator doors - that's it. Other than going up the Empire State to look down on it, which I did. Such beauty. And so is Grand Central station of course.
And Ming, in reply to one of your comments on Menton. Yes, the red carpet will be laid out for you. I'll take you to Le Balico. When you start to plan on trip, write me and we'll work out days, whatever. Can't wait to meet you and to show you a bit of Menton and perhaps Monte Carlo if you like. J x

A very good shot to illustrate two good examples of different architectural styles... and between the two you can see an example of a less creative spirit.

Very intellectual comperison! The top of the Chrysler Building reminds me of the typical and favorite scenery of NYC.

The Chrysler Building it's the mine and Woody Allen preferred. I would like take it in picture once with heavy cloudy sky :-)
