I hope Opera is more interesting in Singapore than it is in America, France, and Australia!

Not really! It's a lot of screeching noise sung in a language I hardly understand.

But the costumes and music are interesting....for about 12 minutes. :-)

Hi Ming, see that you're taking full profit of your travelling...
Thanks for your visit and comment to Blogtrotter 90s. I've been updating the main Blogtrotter, so paid no particular attention to the Revivals. Anyhow, this weekend, for the benefit of my non-French speaking visitors, I posted some new NYC pictures on Blogtrotter-Revival-90s, and updated also the Blogtrotter-Revival-70s&80s. Enjoy!

Your photo is nice but the painting on the wall is incredible.

I never liked Chinese opera but then I can't understand the language and the melodies are harsh on my ears.

Best Wishes for a nice week,

Hey, you're still vacationing! How wonderful is this even with all the screeching.

Hey, did you have to take that photo secretly, with no flash?

Lucky you to be on an extended vacation. Have you met any bloggers yet (or have you covered this already--I'm working backwards on the blog).

Ming, I think it's a treat to have been able to catch an Opera troupe doing their thing - my mom would have thoroughly enjoyed it, I would have too, like you, for about 12 minutes!

I saw Chinese Opera at the Met and I have to say it's an acquired taste. Does it go on for hours or is this a newer shorter version of the opera? I'd go for the visual aspect, not for the singing. The costumes look amazing.

It's getting very rare to see Chinese opera performing in the open. I remember following my grandparents to see opera when I was a little girl ... I don't remember the opera but I do remember going to the opera means can eat lots of snacks. :)

I love Teochew opera ... grew up listening to it all day long because my grandparents played that non stop every day. I love teochew opera - very beautiful music.

I'm so glad you have found a way to post some of your pictures, and they are well worth waiting for. I hope you're having a wonderful holiday.
I'm just catching up on blogs, haven't been able to get to the computer for a few days cos I had some foot surgery.
I've seen Chinese Opera on TV, never live, but it looks so colourful and vibrant, perhaps I could wear earplugs and tune out the screeching??

Oh You're in Singapore now! I just dropped by your blog [been missing for one week plus] and seems I've missed so many photos of Malaysia. So have you stopped by Kuala Lumpur already?

Nice photo BTW. I've seen the chinese opera when I was a little girl. I never understand what they sang.
