TV Killed The Radio Star

I saw this graffiti on a temporary wall in front of a store in Union Square. I thought it was beautifully done and so unique because it was anonymous. Most graffiti artists tag their work with a logo or a nickname.

Interestingly enough, Dr. Vint Cleft, the godfather of internet, predicts that TV will go the way of radio in the near future. TV killed the radio star and internet killed the TV star.

So how many hours of TV do you watch a week?

While my husband watches T.V., I listen to XM radio. So in our house, neither media has killed off the other.

I agree 100% with that quote.
I don't watch tv. I don't own one - cancelled by tv sibscribtion a few years years ago when I moved and never went back. Best decision ever.

Great graffiti! Hmm! You have made me evaluate. On week-ends we play lots of music on CD's. During the week, I usually have public radio stations on throughout the house, I listen to news on TV both in the early morning and the evening. Don't watch tv programs very much except during football season (American football) 'cuz we're football crazy even tho we admit that it's a terribly violent game with overpaid stars. Also read lots of books. Altho tv is often trashed there are some wonderful history and travel programs on it!

Great post, Ming. Gosh, I'm impressed by other commenters who watch NO TV. I probably watch too much!

Loved your Monkey on the Back yesterday too.

And to answer the question you posed on Menton DP - I never did live in NYC. I lived in California for nearly two years but over the years since I left California, I've visited NYC from time to time and just adore it.

I have a tv but no cable, that being said I admit to being obsessive about the show Heroes, and will be obsessed with America's Next Top Model, because I finally live in a place that we get the station...

oh and I also watch the "news" and by "news" I mean Access Hollywood.

Now that the I-Man is off MSNBC, not nearly as many hours as I used to! LAST COMIC STANDING and PARDON THE INTERRUPTION are about my only regulars these days. Then I also throw in NBC Nightly News or ABC World News, Nightline, and Charlie Rose (if his guests are remotely interesting). Finally, got to check out South Park once in awhile! At the end of the day, I definitely spend much more time online.

The more chains you get (and I have many) the less you watch! I hardly watch at all, except for specific direct events (sports) and som film channels - normally late in the night, when you get the better ones. When blogging, my radio is on - for music.

Don't watch commercial TV at all - just can't stomach all those...commercials!
Get my news online (I control what subjects interest me) and rent foreign DVD's once in a while.

Life's too short to watch TV ;-)

Oh I love this saying or quote. I also believe it. I was around when people still listened to one station radios and a wire and from that to television and then color television was quite a leap. Then the Internet and computers and the LCD monitors. I can't wait until I can watch television on my computer without having to buy a lot of extra crap to add on to what I have.

I think you can do it now but have to buy something special.

Anyway, since all and I do mean ALL news on television and newspapers is controlled and fed after approval and the Internet isn't, it stands to reason that one day when the anchors go home for the weekend and come back on Monday, the audience will also be gone. I think they are already leaving in droves because the news is managed.

There are meetings every day and the purpose is to decide what to put on the evening news. There is something wrong about that. Someone else is telling you what you will watch.

The Whine House has a daily program where Tony SNow feeds these s0-called journalists the news from the Whine House. Guess what the news is going to be? Slanted? Of course.

So, yes, indeed, I am an old man but really willing and able to drop television altogether. We gave up the newspapers after subscribing for 47 years because the newspapers are managed news and because each page is filled with SPAM. Ads. The kind of thing we block on the Internet we pay for in the newspapers.

Wow. I am glad you posted something I don't like. LOL

And, I actually came here to thank you for the visits to my blogs and for commenting on both of them.

Graffiti is unfortunately back in NY.

We have taggers all over Hell's Kitchen...

Not sure why Bloomberg isn't on top of this...

Once it gets going, it's hard to stop.

I'm sure it's the kids from the High Schools around here...

But watch, it will be a perfectly legitimate middle aged Republican lawyer with a small penis syndrome...

well said! These days kids watch way too much craps on TV. I used to watch a lot TV till I met my significant other and these days, I don't watch much TV except for the news. However we spent too much time in front of the screen.
