Chrysler Building

Here is a zoomed in (or zoomed up) photo of the Chrysler Building -- as far as my little point-and-shoot camera can zoom. Isn't it a gorgeous building? I had to admit, it is one of my favorite architectural structures in New York City.

But I have a confession; I have never been inside the Chrysler Building. Midtown east, as this area is commonly called, is not a very interesting place to visit. There are mostly foreign embassies, corporate hotels and big office buildings in the area. So unless you have a business meeting to attend or are using the Grand Central Station, which is across the street from the Chrysler Building, you won't necessarily want to come to this area.

So how was your weekend? Did you do anything interesting?

I have to agree, this building is awesome and when I see it in movies, more particular the gargoyles, those are the best feature of the building.

most beautiful of all, an UFO in the town of NYC, and inside, paintings on the sublime wall. From night, it is even more beautiful. It appears that now there is a restaurant in bottom? it is true, and if it is true, you ace already eats there?

Yes, certainly one of the nicest skyscrapers! Anyhow very impressive!
My weekend for partly a birthday party for my youngest grandchild, but also a lot of walking to prepare for my "building post" today. Other types of buildings.

This is my favourite Manhattan building and on my last visit I went specially to it. Of course now you can only enter a small foyer - you can't even get into the area that have the beautiful elevators. All closed off. So I had to go to the top of the Empire State Building, didn't I? - to photograph it from above. Such an amazing building. Thanks for your photo, Ming. It's brilliant.

I went to the Princess Grace exhibition - see my Monte Carlo DP blog...

I like this building also. It has some details that have never been exceeded in architecture.

I have not been to New York City but two of my daughters used to go there for the US Open every year.

Hey Ming,

Great shot...
I agree that on midtown east there are not plenty of things to do but an interesting way to visit this neighborhood is to follow the 42nd st from Times Square to the United Nations...

There are plenty of things to see such as :

1) Times Square
2) BryantPark
3) New York Public Library
4) Grand Central Terminal + The wonderful Helmsley Building
5) The Chrysler Building
6) Tudor City Architecture
and 7) The United Nations

Well, I think each street of new york has a little something unique, and I must agree with Paul Auster, the best way to see the city is to get lost in it...

You know, I went inside last year for the first time during the OpenHouseNewYork weekend.

While the lobby is interesting, the rest of the building is off-limits to casual visitors. However, the guards assured me that the offices have been converted to bland, boring spaces full of cubicles.

Unless I apply for a job with a company located in the Chrysler Building, though, I guess I'll never really know.

My office used to be accross the street in the Metlife building. I've been inside a couple of times but access is restricted since 9/11. I've heard the art deco elevator doors are gorgeous. I'd love to see them for myself.
This one is definitely my favorite NY building. So pretty and elegant!
