Paris in New York

This little restaurant called the Cinema Café on 60th Street between Madison and 5th Avenue reminds me of the cafés I saw in Paris. Despite the beautiful outdoor seatings in the photo, not many people eat outside because of the noise and dust stirred up from the traffic right in front of it. The seatings inside are much nicer and the food, I hear is excellent. I have never eaten here before.

Two days ago, I posted a photo of a window with a sign, Beware of Pickpockets and Loose Women. A few people asked why should one be wary of loose women. I cannot answer that question so I will let you guys explain it.

You cannot explain that question? This blog thing requires some research, ya know!

Love the picture - have not tried that place. But a few meters from there, there is a little place called Bistro 60 which I like once in a while. You can get things like this (tuna tartare with lime sauce and toasts - yummy!).

Looks inviting, but noise and dirt do not complement food!

I like the vintage feeling of the shop. It does look like a cinema lol. The red seats.

Ooooooh....this restaurant looks very vintage chic and Parisian! Would love to see a photo of the interior. Maybe one day you'll treat yourself to a meal there? :oP

Just over 2 weeks now until I'm in town - yippppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
What's the weather like?

Oh for the love of food! said...

I don't think anyone wants to tell you why you don't need to be wary of loose women and I don't think I want to get involved too. I don't think I need to worry about you though, buddy!
Nice Cafe. Go ahead, treat yourself!

It certainly looks like Paris! Are you still allowed to smoke if you sit outside?

If the chairs have been facing out, facing the walkway or adjacent road...then it's Paris :)

Paris is always great; but Paris in New York is the best of both worlds...
Don't remember this on 60th St., but on 61st one always have Aureole, provided you are willing to spend some money...
Have a great weekend Ming!

Yes it really does remind me of Paris too - except for the reflection of course of a yellow cab!

Will have to try it next time I'm at the Apple Store.

hmm that statement about loose woman is really intriguing... i'd guess because those women are also the pickpockets?

unfortunately there's not enough of a pavement so the dust is a bit of a deterent. unlike Paris cafes where the pavements are wider hence more condusive to outdoor seating. Pastis has nice outdoor seating come to think of it.
