Here is another fire escape photo and this one was taken in SoHo. Notice the vase shaped railings on the fire escape and the ornate moldings on the roof. This is fairly typical of the building built in that era.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. And Happy Columbus Day. Am so happy to have a three-day weekend.

Nice shot, Ming! Fire escapes always make wonder who used to sit out on them on hot summer nights, listening to sounds of the city, hoping for a cool breeze. . . .
Love those. This one has an interesting shape indeed. It looks as if it is made to hold flower pots, which I guess is not the place to leave them.
I love the colour of that building - so warm.
So we arrive on Colombus Day...I didn't know that. Oooooh - the airports will probably be crazy busy :o( Oh well.
See you soon and enjoy your extra day off work!
I like this fire escape shape.
Paz (who took Friday off, so has a 4-day weekend!)
Oh, I do like those vase-shaped railings. I wouldn't have noticed that if you hadn't pointed them out!
Unfortunately I have to work on Monday. But since I called in sick today, I still got a three day weekend ;o)
Monday is a holiday? Wow, got right by me. No rest for the self employed.
I used to like to sit out on the fire escape on warm evenings but my mother thought it was low class and made me come back in if she caught me. All the old six story apartment buildings in Sunnyside still have them, don't they?

LOVE fire escape's photos! This one is very beautiful!
Have a nice weekend as well!
Tenha um bom final de semana também! (in Portuguese)
Happy Columbus Day to you too.
(The weather here hasn't yet cooled down, actually today it was uncomfortably humid; the photo you saw today on my blog was shot a couple of weeks ago when were in the 60s for a day or two).
Hi Ming, thanks for various comments on my two blogs!
Flame Vine's flowers haven't no aroma and the tree haven't no fruits at all.
Happy Columbus Day to you too!
Another wonderful fire escape photograph. We have balconies with this same shape here. Funny, I always thought they were French - just shows you. Who knows where the shape first started. Love the angle of photo, Ming.
Every time I see pictures of fire escapes I have to remember to tell the people that the first fire escape my mother and I ever saw was in a hotel in Indianapolis, during World War II days. No airconditioning. The toilet was shared -- one floor -- one toilet and sink. We all had a bowl of water and a ceramic basin in the room.
The fire escape, was, honest to god, a large diameter rope with knots tied in it about every three feet. You were supposed to throw it out the window and slide down the rope. My mom was a big woman and would never have been able to hold on to the rope.
But that is the way some fire escapes were in those days. So you are way too modern for us.
Big city.
I been working hard on a new blog and am finishing the "categories" right now. When they are done I will begin filling them in with unpublished photos. You can see the categories now...

It is Columbus Day where you are, but here in Canada it's Canadian Thanksgiving Day.
Great photo, Ming. You've inspired me to try for some myself.
I hope you thoroughly enjoy your long weekend!
Been meaning to ask you... Do you ever submit your photos to the groups on Flickr??
There's one for NYC Fire Escapes...
Did you know that??
