Fire Escape 9

Here is another beautiful vase shaped fire escape with ornate iron work on the railings and steps. You cannot see it in this photo but there was an old man leaning out the window just left of the bottom corner staring at me. I think he was either curious or unhappy I was taking a photo of his building. I said HI but he did not respond.

Have you ever had someone stare at you before? What did you do?

Most people accept their fate and smile at the camera. In this case I can't even see the guy. LOL

This old man's post brought tears on this Veteran's Day but not because I am a Korean War era veteran.

This photo makes you dizzy looking up. Is that possible? I've had people stare before but just try and ignore them. That guy may have thought you were someone going to be making some complaint on him.

That's an unusual design. NY fire escapes are usually very plain. Where is the building located?

When I was a child, I lived at 41-19 41st St. and later 41-09, just down the street from you. Once I was out on the fire escape on a pleasant afternoon because I liked the view. My mother made me stop becuse it was low class.

I remember being stared at all over Japan. I am quite tall, about 190 cm, and people often pointed at me and giggled. One tiny woman came up to me in the lobby of the Fukuoka train station, stared straight up, touched the tip of my nose with her finger and started laughing. Everyone thought that the gaijin giant was very strange.

I always love your fire escape shots. So quintessentially NYC.

People stopped staring at me 20 years ago!

Ha!

What would NYC be without fire escapes?
I'm afraid the only one staring at me nowadays is the guy in the mirror!

Cool angle!!

When I was a kid, I got stared at a lot. It's because I was the only Asian kid in my whole elementary school. I got used to kids pointing at me.

Man, you loooove those fire escapes and stoops, don't you? They are quite fascinating, I agree. I'd love to see them with tons of plants on them, which totally goes against their purpose. But I always think they would look so pretty.

My eyes were playing tricks when I looked at this photo. My depth perception was way off and I thought I was seeing a brick sidewalk... Great shot :)

A beauty! Great angle.

They used to stare at me, Ming....oh well...

seriously, I've had exactly the same thing happen to me. Photograph a building and someone leaning out, just stares and doesn't speak. Perhaps they feel their privacy is invaded but of course we are simply photographing a building.
