SoHo at Night

This photo was taken minutes before the one I posted yesterday. It is from the corner Prince Street and Mercer Street, where the Fanelli Cafe is located. The bar/restaurant has been here for since 1847, way before SoHo became the hot spot for fashion and art. It serves really good chilli and burgers but most people come here for the bar scene since it is right in the middle of SoHo.

Since this was late in the evening, I set the camera to a slow exposure and balance it on top of a traffic light box -- the thing that is attached to the traffic light post and goes tick-tock-tick-tock as it counts down to the light change.

Do people ever ask you why you're taking particular photographs? If they do, you should tell them because you're a damn good photographer!

Cool effects in this picture too. Chili, mmmmm, that'd be nice for dinner tomorrow :).

("I'm looking at the photos and map more carefully and realized the islands are gone. I guess the rivers were filled up to make the way for the airport." You are a total hoot, Ming!!!! LOL! That's exactly what the captions between the photos explain. >BD )

This is how I think of New York City - the city that never sleeps. Even the babies are out at night.

I'm glad you had such a beautiful day today, Ming.

Another great shot.

I've never been to Fanelli Cafe, even though I've walked past it a zillion times. Must stop there sometime for a chili burger.

The exposure turned out very well, shows motion but you can still see the people. You said 'late at night' and there are so many people on the street. :) That's New York!

Smart to use traffic boxes as tripods!

I found it "interesting" that there is a baby in the stroller in the middle of the picture and it looks like they are headed to the bar/restaurant.

Which begs the question? Where do people shop for groceries?

Your forgot your daily question to us!
The slow exposure was not only what was needed to get a good photo, but may also be "correct" as some people may not be too happy to be recognized.

Peter, I totally forgot about it. I didn't realize there was no question until you mentioned it.

You are so crafty, my friend. I just point and click, lol.
I like the blur on the people in the street.
