Early Dinner @ Blue Smoke

I went to the doctor's office for my annual medical check-up yesterday and was pricked, pulled, yanked and fingered (you boys know what I mean) all within the matter of minutes. And he didn't even buy me dinner or say thank you.

So to get over my feeling of rejection, I treated myself to a nice dinner at Blue Smoke, a kitschy BBQ joint in Murray Hill, the neighborhood northeast of Union Square. The baked beans were mediocre at best, the hush puppies were dry and cold, and the BBQ ribs, although meaty, were not falling-off-the-bone delicious. I was disappointed again.

So what is your comfort food?

FRENCH FRIES or Bacon-cheddar-jalapeno mashed potatoes!

Looks like dinner did not make you feel any better after all the poking at the doc's office :O
But you did your revenge by "pulling" the meat off the rib bones, did ya? LOL!

You got the looks. When you get a good looking meal don't expect it to taste delicious too. It is also the other way around. If it looks bad it is probably delicious.

Your photo obviously is of a higher quality than the food! Comfort food, hmmm. I guess it depends on my mood. Nostalgia for childhood makes me crave chocolate milk shakes, but comfort food? I'm indecisive. I'll think about it.

You feel sorry for yourself? I went for my first breast mammogram and ultrasound recently - I have never felt so violated in my entire life.
Nevermind no dinner or thank you, I was slapped with a $300 bill!
Comfort food? Definitely braised melt-in-your-mouth pork belly in dark soy caramel on a steamy bed of jasmine rice mmmmm...

J'espère que tes résultats sont bons. C'est pas très agréable d'être tourner et retourner dans tous les sens par son médecin.
Si en plus le repas n'était pas terrible, mauvaise journée ;o).

I hope that your results are good. It is not very nice to be back and spinning in all directions by his doctor.
If in addition to the meal was not terrible, bad day o).

Shoot, if its food and not veggies its comfort food for me. Those ribs sure look good though, you sure they were not any good? I am picky with my baked beans, they have to be like my mom used to make.

Well, the food LOOKS good, too bad that it was a big disappointment after your doc visit. And don't think that boys are the only ones who get "fingered" when going for the annual checkup!
And comfort food? Going for a long walk with the dog on a cold snowy day and then a bowl of hot steaming homemade soup in front of the fire.... now that's COMFORT!

Aaaww, poor you! We ladies also have the 'poking' exam now and then and thank your lucky stars you don't need a cold speculum to have your exam. :-)

My comfort food: spaghetti gamberi, my mom's adobo (Ricky Martin's fave dish in the Philippines) and sweet thangs (cakes, donuts, other desserts).

Yummy BBQ Too bad it was not to yur liking. I love BBQ and am lucky to live in a part of the country where it is abundant. My comfort food is Mexican though. I love tortillas hot with butter on them or a nice plate of enchiladas! And to answer your question about Dooley he does not shed. They make the best house dogs. My friend Nancy raises and sells them you can visit her website. It is listed in my blogroll under get your own weenie dog. I would post it here but am computer retarded! Go look maybe you could get yourself one for Christmas!

I guess we women don't feel to badly for you with your "poking" but I can appreciate the bad food....A good burger and fires does it for me followed by some homemade chocolate chip cookies! HOpe all turns out well....
BTW, I have tried a few night shots and some of them turn out ok! Thanks again for the info!

I'll have to go with Sushi or anything with bacon. Try Famous Dave's for "falling of the bone goodness" and some fantastic beans. I know there is one on LI if you are able to get out to the Island.

I've gone there are agree....food is okay, not great. Though those ribs look REALLY good.

My favorite comfort foods are mac 'n cheese and meatloaf with mashed potatoes.

Duke's and Chat 'n Chew serve them both.

The Waverly Inn has mac 'n cheese on their menu....for $55.

Well, this was a bummer, the pics looked so good. I was hoping for a glowing report. Maybe next time.

My comfort fod: tough one, there's so many. Can'e go wrong with a Tater Tot Hot Dish. (Hot Dish, it's a midwest thing). ;)

No offense, but BBQ in NYC? They don't sound like they go together too well!!

Early Christmas present is your clean bill of health! Probably from all that walking around NYC you do taking these amazingly interesting pics.

My comfort food...hmm...now keep in mind you are asking a southerner from no less than Louisiana, to describe comfort food.

There are so many options. I would have to settle on a small Ribeye cooked medium with fresh horseradish and A1, sides include a Sweet Potato, and real anchovy- based Ceaser Salad...oh can't forget the Cowboy-style Corona (salted, chilled mug with lime).

For sweets it would have to be homemade Cherry Pie and La. Sweet Tea or Coffee.

For breakfast there's simply no competition here - Handtossed biscuits with fresh sausage white milk gravy....oh my.

I'm starving now.

But, when I'm in NYC..it's all Greek food baby.

I wandered over here via Rook's Nest and saw this mouth watering food...sorry to hear it wasn't as delicious as it looks. Enjoying your blog. My comfort foods...anything with mashed potatoes, stew, mac and cheese. Is that stereotypically American?
