Artist In Training

I was in SoHo yesterday afternoon for an appointment and I came upon this young fellow doing a chalk drawing outside a retail store next to the Sunrise Mart on Broome Street and West Broadway. The last time I saw such an elaborate chalk drawing on the street was in Paris, outside the Louvre.

So when was the last time you saw a chalk drawing?

In the summer, but I can't remember if it was here or in Toronto...

I'd like it whether it was in New York or Paris, and I'd love to be in either place!

I hope it doesn't rain for a while.

My last chalk drawing spotting: At the India festival in Basel - summer of 2005.

The last time I saw a chalk drawing was about 2 years ago in summer here in my city.
I love chalk drawings no matter what city they are at. nice shot!

Last time? Well, I remember one of my Economics teachers drawing an elaborate equation on the blackboard. To me, it looked like a flock of seagulls pursued by a battalion of ants mounted on armed skateboards. In the end the derivatives equaled zero. Amazing piece of art.

Wow, I can't remember ever seeing one. Wish more people did them - very cool looking.

Never....doesn't seem to happen here in my city or maybe I am not downtown enough to see it.

A couple of weeks ago, the kids on the street were drawing big flowers and stuff.

BTW. . .My dogs said that since I don't like chocolate, they'd be happy to help you get rid of your birthday stash. ;-D

Did he have a bowl for money? That would be usual. Last time I saw one would have been in London - around Trafalgar Square perhaps? Cant' really remember but a long time ago.

Some chalk work on pavements can be brilliant.

That must have been in kindergarten! It's to damn cold up here. All artists stays inside.
It's a great picture, love the (peace bringing?) doves!
What's your favourite part of NY? Is SoHo one of them?

Ming - aren't there sometimes people who make chalk reproductions of famous paintings on the sidewalk outside the Metropolitan and MOMA, soliciting tips? I have a hazy memory of something like that.

As you may have heard on the news, we had a tragedy in our city two days ago. It even made the Times. It’s the subject of my post today. This was difficult to write about but I needed to say it.

That's terrific!

Great capture, Ming!

No chalk drawings around here in the winter.... too much snow... but in the summer the kids next door draw hopscotch games on the driveway.

A chalk drawning....? Maybe when I was a kid and the girls would do the hopscotch on the road and we would hose it down?.

There is a chalk drawing contest on the University campus here and some of the drawings are quite amazing, even 3-D.

I like those draws and thinking how hard is to stay down on knees drawing they are even much more great

I haven't seen such an elaborate chalk drawing. Are those seagulls or doves?
