Hasten, the Swedish maker of luxurious mattresses, opened its first free standing store in NYC recently. The store, located in the middle of trendy SoHo, sells mattresses that are all hand stitched, using all-natural materials like horse hair, cotton and wool. It also has a 25-year warrantee but prices start at $4,475.
I wonder if our Swedish friends/bloggers all have Hasten mattresses. What about you?

WOW!! That's one expensive mattress!!! But imagine how comfortable it would be....oooooh....now I'm getting sleeeeeepy.....zzzzzzzz ;o)
I can think of better ways to spend $4,475, however, I'm sure well-heeled New Yorkers will be happy customers at this store!
Yepp, got one. Bought it some years ago. It's expensive, all right. If you sleep better? Nah, don't think so.....I didn't notice any way.
Oh, sounds lovely, but $4475!?!
Interesting, didn't know they're going for the export market. Nope, don't have one and I'd agree that you could do other things "starting at" $4475...
je ne connais pas du tout, mais de suede nous avons hérité d'Ikea pour les meubles, les lits and co
I do not know at all, but we suede inherited Ikea for furniture, beds and co
Our current apt already comes furnished with a very hard bed and mattress :(
Back in CA, we tried the Ikea mattress. Cheap and good.
Back in S'pore, it's a pocketed spring mattress. Comfy...
Errr....but I cannot imagine paying over $4k for a bed!!! :O though I know we spend more than 5hrs on bed.
Yesterday ABBA, today Hästens!! Tomorrow? Are you "flirting" a Swede?
Well, I don't sleep on Hästens (must be nice, but expensive), never owned a Volvo or a Saab. I'm probably not the perfect Swede. (But I go to Ikea and listen to ABBA.)
Sweden week in New York!
I'm sleeping in a Hästens since maybe 15 years. I don't know if it's really worth the money, but I had had two cheaper bad beds and thought it best to invest in my sleep. And it's a good bed (you wouldn't get me to say anything else after all that money).
Lordy. What prices. We used to have a hand made mattress made from corn shucks. That was ok but something like sleeping on corn flakes. I guess you get what you pay for. I wonder if the mattresses are hand stitched in some place other than Sweden. I would bet they are.
Thats a lot of cash. I think I got mine at a second hand shop for about $25. Ok, not really.....it cost $50.
That's about $175/year for the cheap mattress. . . .I thought the Westin hotel mattresses were expensive, and they were $2200 last I saw. . . .
I've never heard of this brand but goodness the price! I can recommend Tempur. I've got a Tempur pillow cos of an arthritic neck (result of a head on car crash I didn't treat - very clever!) expensive but not in this bracket, but it sure works. I'd love a mattress made of the same stuff but haven't dared ask the price.
We should invest in good mattresses - don't we spend a third of our lives in bed, or some such number? This is pretty cher, tho.
...and continuing today's Swedish theme... according to our friends at Wikipedia the TEMPUR material was originally designed by NASA for use in space, but after NASA abandoned it, a Swedish mattress firm picked up the idea and made it into a mattress... so wherever you sleep, Sweden is in your dreams or pretty close by... ;)
At that price I'd want the best nights sleep of my life!
I've never been much for plaid!
Well, maybe they buy these fancy mattresses, strap them to the tops of their Volvos to drive home, and then stick them onto their Ikea bed frames!
Mattress sellers/makers are same or worse than car dealers, in my opinion... Having said that, the most I've paid for a mattress was a tad more than half the price of this one you're featuring. That was two years ago and I am not that crazy about the darn thing. It's a good mattress, but I don't believe any mattress is worth that much money. But that's me, of course.
Hey, Happy Valentine's Day!!!
*********** ♥ ***********
Mine is a Swiss one...
ooooo.... that's expensive!
i tot Serta mattresses were expensive enough.
Dunlopillo I just suddenly thought of this name. LOL. Remember it?
I have a Tempurpedic, which I bought 9 years ago, and absolutely love it.
I have a Hästens and I love it. I sleep lika a baby. Every night.
Also my bed come from Swede. It's made by IKEA ;-)
Hastens beds are pretty increadible. I have slept on my Hastens for 7 years. In fact, my company was the first to sell Hastens in the US. (my store is in Connecticut). But they are not for everyone.
They are built better than other mattress and should last over 50 years, but the main reason to get one is for the comfort. If you feel more support and comfort on a Hastens, you should consider it, but if you feel more comfortable on a different brand, than that is the bottom line.
Actually, House of Norway has been selling Hastens beds longer than any other retailer in the USA. We also have the $65,000 Hastens Vividus bed ... NOW 40% OFF thanks to the GQ dog that got it's fur all over our bed when GQ borrowed it for the photo shoot in the May 2008 issue of GQ. OR maybe you are a dog lover and would pay the full price for this "collector's item"??? Either way it's available from our showroom here in Fairfield NJ. Call us 973-227-3367 or stop by to test it out for yourself... We also have a new one in stock ready for delivery! PLUS all the other bed models. My Hastens bed arived after 8 weeks of dreaming of it.
so many of you cry about the price, but once you get one you'll be telling all your friends. I am a student with not alot of money, however sleep is more important to me than a fancy car or big TV.
even if you dont buy one you should at least lay in one ..you owe it to your body.
I have an Excelsior Hastens bed. it was $20.000 but it's the only luxury item we own, I still love it and think it was worth every penny.
You spend $20.000 on a new car but it will never last as long or give you what a Hastens does.
