Theme Photo: Graffiti or Street Mural

The theme for March's photo is graffiti or street mural. This photo above was taken from the elevated #7 train in Long Island City and it shows the graffitis that are plastered all over the surfaces of various buildings in the area. They are part of a permanent art project for PS1, an alternative, avant garde museum.

This month, 144 bloggers are participating in the theme photo. Check them out.

Very interesting mural, Ming. It kinda fools the eye, doesn't it? The light bulb is hilarious.

Actually, the murals cover a huge area and it is difficult to photograph the whole scene. Being on the elevated train helps tremendously because of the vantage point but the moving train limited the amount of time I have to shoot the photos.

I much prefer the stencil type art that is happening now to these big, chunky tag-type letters. It can be witty, whimsical, whatever. Or just like Green Boy

I like its ephemeral nature too.

i like this mural and the lettering... all the different colors look cool too... it does seem like an optical illusion, i guess just from where you shot the photo. very nice capture!

Ah, Ming, I wondered what you would post. I think of NYC as a hotbed for street art. You delivered, big time! I love how colorful and upbeat most of this is, and I like seeing it from the el level. I don't think it stuff in the Bronx, say, would be this upbeat and colorful.. .I could be wrong, though. Have a great Saturday!

Love the graffiti NY has to offer. Wonderful stuff! I can spend hours looking at this kind of creativity. Thanks for sharing!

So much to see here. Well done for getting this shot from a train! You must have so much street art in New York as this shows.

This is the nicest form of graffiti I've seen...however, it is still graffiti ;-)

There are some very talented graffiti artists around, but sometimes they practise their art where they shouldn't.
This is very impressive but.... not sure if I like the trend to deface public areas.
When I am stuck at a train level crossing, most of the boxcars going by have been graffiti-ized, but only up to a certain level. I guess that graffiti artists don't take a step ladder with them when they are decorating trains.

I like that each one is its own work, but they all go together to creat one big mural.

That's a lot of graffiti. I always wondered how those artists get away with painting public property and not getting caught.
