Naumburg Bandshell

This is the inside view of the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park. The structure, built in 1923, is located at the end of the Literary Walk near the 72nd Street entry to Central Park off of 5th Avenue. Musical performances are held here throughout the year for the public.

So when was the last time you attended a musical performance?

Wow, it's been a couple years. I always think stuff sounds so much better on tape/cd/mp3/whatever the proper format is these days than in person so usually I've been disappointed at concerts. And most of the time, the whole atmosphere is more annoying than enjoyable, especially when you're seated next to two bastards who say stuff like, "Don't worry, we won't be sitting here all night if things go according to plan; we'll be on stage."

Ming, I love your shot of this! The geometric shapes are so intriguing. I go to concerts pretty often. The next one will be Ani DiFranco on the 23rd here in Seattle.

I feel that nothing replaces the live music! I go regularly to a small "café musical" very close to where I live. Free of charge (you must consume = drink something; no problem!) you can listen to mostly young artists, in general performing classical music. Normally, we are some 20-30 people listening. Nice atmosphere, you can talk and discuss with the performers...!

This is one of those pictures where the decorative elements can be sunken in or stick out depending on your eye focus. I like it.

What a cool perspective! I've never looked up into the bandshell. It has such an interesting pattern to it. I've been to the opera recently but I can't remember when I was last to a regular concert. There are lots of nice ones in the bandshell in the summer.

When I visited Central Park a couple of years ago I wanted to look in the Bandshell but there were some drunks in it putting on their own show! Thanks for posting this photo, it shows me what i always wanted to see :)

Great photo! The last performances I attended were during the Christmas season. This time of year, the males in my household insist that Basketball, then Baseball (and pre-baseball), is King.

I really like that shot. Does the place have good acoustics? If so, it's probably from the detail on the inside of the curved roof..... very nice.
The last time I went to a musical performance?? Last Saturday... I was part of a lip sync contest.... more to follow on my blog, I bet you can't wait!!!
