Old Chairs

I am always fascinated at how some people can make old things, like these chairs, look so cool and appealing again. An artist friend of mine always managed to find interesting pieces of broken furniture left on the street, take them home and turn them into beautiful useable items in her apartment.

The last time I spotted something on the street, picked it up and put it in my pocket was when I found a beautiful, black, smooth river stone in Union Square.

So when was the last time you picked something up from the street?

I am never as lucky :O

I wonder how much weight these old chairs can take.

Mildly confusing set of signs. Wonder what happens to the other "portion" of this building if there is a fire?

Last thing I remember picking up from a street (besides trash) is a small "micra" Leatherman multi-tool. Somebody's loss and my gain. Use this little knife frequently.

You are not far behind from your friend, you know!
The only person who I met who can make real art with some horrid old chairs (and yellow!!)was you!

My husband has picked up several old bicycles, which he & our boys have had a great time fixing up and then riding.

I liked this photo very, very much!

I picked up a ten dollar bill at the corner of 85th and West End once. I think I turned it into a sandwich...

Hi Ming! Found only some cent coins... Loved to see the Subway post!
Sorry for this short visit, but I just wanted to say thanks for your comments on my blogs. This weekend, I’m going to take a musical break, and next week I’ll make a very short trip, crossing South Atlantic. I’ll try to catch up with your posts as soon as possible. Meanwhile, leave you with some chocolate champagne truffles at Blogtrotter.
Have a lovely weekend and an excellent week!

I once found a $5.00 bill!
Rather disappointing as I was hoping to find $100.

I really appreciate age as well. These chairs have history and are different from anything else you'll find. No one else will have something like this! They're unique.

Just a few weeks ago I found a flower pot with a dead plant in. I threw the plant away but kept the pot, it's now on my terrasse with blooming buds in there!

My bedside table is also a street find!

Love the photo. It's very usual in France to dump anything you don't want by the bins. Pass 10 minutes later and it's gone.

The last thing I picked up were some old wrought iron tables - perfect for pots on the terrace.

I've found money, twice a $20 bill.

Several years ago I picked up a Canon digital camera in a case, on the corner of Third Avenue and 16th Street.

About a month ago I found a dirt-encrusted one inch tall plastic baby in the street outside my house. He's in sort of a defiant standing position; so funny! I put him on my husband's desk. Neither of us has acknowledged him, but we keep hiding him amongst one another's belonging. I wonder how long this will go on!

Those chairs are cool, somehow.

I, too, picked up a stone and carried it from Switzerland to Tokyo. True story. It had a really nice shape, about 500 gr., perfect to paint it and use it as a letter weight.

j'adore ces vieilles chaises, on dirait des vieux amis qui discutent entre eux
