Summer is Here

I posted this photo for two reasons. The first one is pretty obvious! The second reason is that I was hoping you guys could tell me the name of this game he was playing. Each player takes a turn to kick a small non-bouncy ball up in the air and then try to catch it with his/her foot. This is repeated over and over again until the player drops the ball on the ground.

So what kind of games or sports do you like to play?

N.B.: When I take my shirt off, this is how I look like too. *ahem*

My boys used to play this...it is called a "hackey sack" I think and that is how you play that game...until you drop it and you can pass it off to others around you...takes a lot of coordination. And if you look like that with your shirt off....man....take a picture!!!nice shot.

qMy son used to play hackey sack, too. It's funny that you posted this today because my husband and I were just saying on Sunday that we hadn't seen anyone playing it in years.

Re: My sports. . . I used to play volleyball and softball (first base!). This rotator cuff thing has put an end to those. . . . .

Ming...I have no idea what sort of game this is...However, whatever it is, I believe it is keeping him in excellent physical condition. I suppose to each, his own.

You know what is interesting about your photo? No one is paying any attention to him...Hmmmm

Nice photo and subject matter....

hackey sack!

Yep, hackey sack. People did that even back when I was a teenager. My balance wasn't good enough for that, but I did synchronized swimming back in those days. Vanquishing opponents never appealed to me much.

Well, let's just say that I'm glad I can't take my shirt off like that ^-^ .

I was gonna say Kabbadi which is obviously wrong as there is no ball involved etc. but I do know now that there is a game like Hackey Sack in this world. Thank you!

I practiced Kendo when I was young (and skiing). Now, I love *walking*.

Cool photo Ming! And if hackey sack gives one that physique, it should be an official Olympic sport!

I love playing soccer/football - I used to be in a female indoor soccer team and am happy to say we won 2 world championships...well, maybe they weren't EXACTLY world championships, but we won beer glasses, which has got to be worth something...hahahahaha :oP

bravo beautiful picture, you have managed to take the right moment, and it is not easy.
It is very clever.
Spring is indeed there, children play a bathing suit in the fountain in the main square of Evry (soon to a post).
To answer your question, I have not never seen a baseball game in NYC, but I think in 2009 (because in 2008 I come for Christmas).

Even in the thumbnail I knew from that posture that he was playing hackey sack. Very nice action shot, Ming!

I am glad you're doing lots of outdoor photos.Great work on the hackey sack; but I thought at first he stepped in something yucky...!

If you look like this you must spend equal time on the street with your camera and in the gym. Good for you! You'll live to be 110 as you're taking such good care of your body and your creativity. An Rx for a long and happy life. Just get yourself a hacky-sac to cut down your gym time -:)

Well, I was going to show you how smart and clever I am by typing HACKEY SACK but I see I've been beaten to it by just about everyone!! My kids used to play this in the driveway with a kind of knitted ball. Lots of agility required!

PEOPLE STILL PLAY THIS? This hit the scene in the late 80s but I thought it died out in the 90s.

I love the two different sneakers... and the fact that this picture screams "I should be wearing a helmet!"

a very nice pic, and reason to post it! it is strange that nobody else seems to be paying attention to him and his six pack. If i take off my shirt, you can see my 6-packs too...

My boys play hackey sack too, but I'm more into horseback sports. Team penning, barrel racing etc. The faster, the better!! ;-)

Hackey Sack! A very popular game in my high school days (which were the 90s). I must admit to playing it... and not being very good at it. But my volleyball team did make it to states two out of four years so at least I have that!

I think there is a Chinese game like that - but they kick a feather-like rubber piece, not a ball! And I don't know that game in English!

NormanTheDoxie said...

Yes...it is hacky sack....and here's a piece of info from Wikipedia...Hacky Sack is the trademarked name of a type of footbag. The name "hacky sack" came from the inventors of the footbag, John Stalberger and Mike Marshall.[1] Although Marshall suffered a fatal heart attack in 1975, Stalberger continued the business.[1] At a later date, Stalberger sold the title to Wham-O. The name Hacky Sack has become a genericized trademark, and can refer to either the footbag or a footbag game.

OMG!!! I saw this exact same dude this afternoon! He was wearing the same outfit, playing that same crazy game and still injured. BTW, you can take my picture anytime, Ming: he does look so much better in your picture then when I saw him!
