Stairwell

I have started taking photos again but it was a slow start. Yesterday, I took about 15 shots of 5 different sceneries/sites but only one came out satisfactory. This is the one satisfactory photo. It is the stairwell of the ABC Carpets & Homes on Broadway between 19th and 20th Street. I was on the 4th floor of the store and decided to take the stairs instead of the elevator and that was when discovered these interesting lines and colors.

Why was I at this furniture store, I hear some of you ask! Well, it has some of the cleanest bathrooms in New York City. :-) One of the things you learn about living here is that you know where the nicest bathrooms are in the city.

So where is the nicest bathroom in your city (aside from your own bathroom, of course)?

Hi Ming! Just a speedy visit to say hello! I’ve been busy the whole last week and will be out in the next, so this is far less than your blog deserves… ;(( But I promise I’ll come back with more time after June 10th, at least…
Anyhow, loved to see the Peninsula, and I tell you that the toilets on the top floor of the Peninsula, Hong-Kong are a must... ;)
To avoid leaving you empty hands, however, I published a last post on Marrakesh 2006 at Blogtrotter. ;))
Enjoy!

The stairs remind me of the movies! Where they shoot fighting and chasing scenes.

This looks like an M.C. Escher print, or maybe cubism; I think color works here better than b&w might because of the vivid walls and those dark brown stair treads.
See? You got your photo mojo back!

Love this shot -- even the stairwells are fabulous at ABC. My go-to loo in this neighborhood has always been the one in the hotel (a W, I think) on the NE corner of 18th and Park Ave. South. But, hey, thanks for the tip -- from now on, I'm heading for ABC (my fave store) if nature calls when I'm in the vicinity.

I like your one satisfactory photo! I've been having a block at the moment, I just can't seem to find what I think is interesting :(

Hey! sorry I haven't visited lately--been crazy. I was JUST at the same ABC carpet last Saturday and used the bathroom there too. You're right, it's so nice!

Amazing staircase and agree with earlier comments about the use of colour as opposed to b&w.The spiraling lines are indeed eyecatching

A for popping in to have a pee, I love this type of "too much information" in a blog. When you gotta go the ambience and cleanliness are essential. Therefore the Swan Pub for me, to answer your question.

Wonderful colors in this stairway. Oh come on, Ming: you go to ABC Carpet just for the bathroom? You are missing out!! I can spend an entire day there. And, there's a nice little café you should test there too. You'll just have to go back.

Knowing where the loo is quite important indeed :)

I like the framing of this photo. Nice lines!

Great perspective, Ming. I do like shots like this.

A question: What is that building in Manhattan that is triangular in shape? The Ironstone?

Re: bathroom. . . .The men's room in the Hermitage Hotel. They actually give tours. I should go down and take a photo.

wonderful photo. I rarely go to ABC but always love it when I get on over. I didn't know about this stair.

how come you stopped taking photos?

That reminds me of the toilet in the new Terminal 3 at Changi Airport!

You can stand and do your business while watching the busy airport activities just right outside. [it's a one way mirror btw :-) ]

I've climbed those stairs many times because you can wait forever for one of their 2 elevators. BTW....The W hotel, 2 blocks from ABC, also has a nice bathroom.
