Water Taxi at South Street Seaport

This water taxi service have limited number of stops in lower Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and New Jersey but it cuts down on travel time for those living near the rivers. Notice the sign on the side of the boat for free water taxi to IKEA Brooklyn? We finally have an IKEA outlet in the city and it's in Red Hook on the south east side of Brooklyn.

The free water taxi service to IKEA leaves Pier 11 (Wall Street) in lower Manhattan and crosses the East River to Red Hook in 12 minutes. Thanks, Eliane for the information.

So do you have an IKEA near you?

Remember to eat some Swedish meatballs when you visit IKEA.

Yes, we have one, but I've never been to it. I've heard its a huge store...
I'm enjoying the fact that the boat taxi is painted the same as a regular yellow New York taxi !! It even has the checkered pattern on it! haha

Glad to see your internet connection is working, again!

I've been on water taxis a few times. . . .not a bad way to travel to avoid traffic and smog. . . unless the water is rough. ;-0

No Ikea in Nashville. DARN! I do like some of their stuff.

Our nearest IKEA is 6 hours away, in Salt Lake City. :-(

Great photo, Ming! Love the yellow color for the taxi.

I guess there is no IKEA store in Brazil...

Yay! Ming's back!

I wish we had something like it on our coastline, but the population base is probably too small.

Cool! Loved that they painted it like regular taxis.

And no, not a single Ikea in the entire Philippines.

I love the idea of a water taxi...and painted like a NYC taxi. The nearest IKEA is in Burbank. It's a very large store and great prices.

Ming, you may want to correct this: the water taxi does not leave from South Street Seaport but from Wall Street (pier 11).
In my opinion, it is the best deal in town. Pretend you go to Ikea: it is free and the views are amazing. Plus Red Hook is interesting explore. Probably the next hip & cool neighborhood.
Twelve minutes. That's what it'll take you to get there. I do recommend.

The closest Ikea to Knoxville is in Atlanta. The water taxi looks like more fun than the 3 hr drive down I-75.

I have a free IKEA bus service stopping just outside my door. They are smart, those people at IKEA!

Is Ikea near the Red Hook port, or does Ikea offer a shuttle to it's store?

I've never taken the taxi boat before.

Yes, we live not too far away from an Ikea store. :-)

Nice shot!

Have you been to the Red Hook Ikea yet? There is a free shuttle bus that goes in a loop from Downtown Brooklyn to the store and back, so I now have a way to get down to Red Hook (and back) for free (normally a $10 cab ride each way). Yay!
