Available for Adoption

I saw this little guy at an animal adoption booth on the corner of Broadway and 17th Street in Union Square recently. I'm not sure if this group is affiliated with the ASPCA and I will do some investigation on it later this week.

So have you ever adopted a pet before?

My family has adopted numerous pets! When I was a senior in high school, my mom and I went to the Humane Society looking for a dog and ended up coming home with the sweetest cat in the entire universe!

il est adorable, mais comme je vis en studio et que je suis rarement chez moi, je pense pas qu'un chien serait heureux.
it is adorable, but as I live in the studio and I'm rarely at home, I think that a dog is not happy.

Aww!

I already have 7 dogs, 3 horses and 3 guinea pigs so I don't really have anymore room to adopt!haha! ... and that's without the 400 cattle! I have taken a horse on for a friend once, but never gone to the pound or anything.

Those particular dog folks have been working Union Sq for years.... I think they are a private fostering organization. If I had space and a yard, I would volunteer to help as a foster parent... But there's hardly enuf room at my place for me and little 4.5 lbs doggy....

We've adopted three dogs over the years. They are the best!

This little guy looks really unhappy and hot. We often have local pet adoption groups set up outside grocery stores with pets for adoption. Makes it harder to resist for sure.

Ohh, I hope he finds a good home!

I had to adopt my father's dog when my dad died and his caregiver left the country. 'Our' dog is now 14 years old and very much a part of the family.

Looking at the tag, it says its a Mastiff type dog. Those get HUGE. He's surely one to think twice about! He'll be a big guy. But, maybe in New York there might be a need for a big-dog protection? Think of the size of the poo baggies...ugh. :) He's cute now, but in 6 months he'll be a monster.

We had a wonderful cat, Cosmo, who adopted us when he was a kitten, showing up on our doorstep one day. When he passed away some 17 years later last fall, we adopted two cats from a Chicago shelter. Adopting pets is a great way to go; instead of adding to the problem of too many pets, you're actually taking in a pet who needs a home.

Have seen these folks for years, think they are affiliated with a pet store. Good folks! Great pic of pooch!

No, I've never adopted before, but I'd love to adopt him. What a cutie! Unfortunately a dog in a studio apartment wouldn't be a good thing (especially a dog that is part Mastiff like this one!)

So cute!

Sure, my dear dog Flora was adopted when a baby by my daughter at the campus of her University. Flora has 9 years old now and I love her so much! You can see Flora on my lap on this avatar.

All it takes is a dog photo for me to melt!!

My female Welsh Terrier is a rescue from a puppy mill. We're lucky she hasn't had a lot of health problems until lately, and even those are controlled now.

Yes, this family has adopted many dogs and many cats in my lifetime. They were all good dogs and cats except the dog who bit the lawyer.... he didn't last long.

What an adorable little fellow - who I am sure is going to grow up to be a big dog!

All of the animals in my life have been adopted!!!!

What a cutie, I'm no dog person but he is adorable.

I adopted my cat, as a kitten, from the charity Cats Protection. He was a bundle of grey fluff, and now he is a big grey terror! But I wouldn't change him at all. Well...

Not me, but my bro was young. But mum seems to be the one who has to take care of it most of the time :-)

Why not get the little white envelope symbol on your blog so that people can email your posts to others?

We got adopted by both our cats. Silent Max (and five of his tiny siblings) were found in the street by a friend. He needed a home. Yoda was screaming outside our house (in the covered entrance hall), at 5 in the morning. A typhoon was approaching - he was wet and full of fleas. It was fate. He needed a home, too...

No other cats showed up at our door since (knocking on wood).

Todd is correct. There are several rescue groups working that area.

Mighty Mutts is usually stationed at the south corner of Union Square.

This pup most likely belongs to a woman named Esmirelda (sp?) who rescues, fosters and places abandoned dogs.
