Ciao Bella Gelato Truck

This Ciao Bella gelato truck was parked at the corner of Park Avenue, at the end of the street fair that stretched from 28th down to 18th Street last weekend. The weather was comfortably warm but dry so the crowd was out in full force. You can see the lines of people waiting to get their gelati (plural of gelato -- something I learned after googling the word).

It seems like ice-cream, coffee and gelato trucks are de rigueur in New York City this summer with newer and more exotic products being sold from a vehicle parked conveniently in a crowded area.

So have you ever bought something (legal, I hope) off of the back of a truck?

In my part of the country, whenever I see someone selling ears of corn out of the back of a truck for some crazy price - like 10 for $1, I always buy, and it's always excellent!

Even the truck's colors are yummy!

When I used to work in Makati City years ago, lunch trucks could be found in almost every street corner. Convenient for office workers.

It's fruits flavored ice-cream in Taiwan's summer :)
But I don't enjoy ice-cream here. Somehow, too many artificial ingredients. :(

You know what struck me about the graphics on the truck? Instead of showing the gelati in scoops or whatever, they have images of the containers in which they're presumably sold in shops.

There is an interesting display of body types in addition to the color of the truck. I never heard of this treat before today.

Ming,
I am having serious ice cream truck envy! This is the second one you have featured and they are just great. This one you could take pictures of all day! What great colors.

I only buy peaches, tomatoes etc. Boring I know.

Dear Ming,
I love your blog. Ciao Bella Gelato looks lovely. There's nothing like that in Italy, funny. We have "gelaterie" (ice cream shops) with wonderful icecreams.
Thank you for your daily photo!

ah...their gelato is amazing. Truly amazing. They make a cappucino flavor that is insane, that tastes like it has coffee flakes in it. Intense.

I had a green tea from them that I liked, too. Yum!

That looks yum! I've probably bought a dozen hot dogs from hot dog vendors, but I've never ordered anything from any of the fancy trucks that seem commonplace in the Big Apple! Wish D.C. had more of those - they look YUM!

Probably just as well we don't have gelato trucks, just soft serve icecream ones. I love lemon sorbet and chocolate - one scoop of each on the same cone. They've certainly made sure you notice that truck.

As far as I am concerned, I'd snobbed the Ciao Bella and walk to find something better (Ciao Bella is pretty generic). And for gelato, my two only addresses are: Il laboratorio del gelato (Lower East Side) and Groom (Upper West Side). Groom just happen to be on my way to/from the subway... :)

I've seen Ciao Bella in the stores, but never on a truck. What a great idea.... I love gelato.
