This installation art piece entitled, Tumbling Mirages by Dennis Oppenheim is one of the many public art projects sponsored by the Union Square Partnership and NYC Parks & Recreation department. The three 15-foot orbs, constructed from steel and fiberglass with multicolor panels, will remain at the southeast corner of the park until November 2008.
So have you ever tumbled (like circus artists) on a trampoline?

Very cool. I like this installation. I've never been on a trampoline :(
Amazing this public art projects... I miss so much living in an urban place...
No way! Never I tumbled on a trampoline!
Looks pretty cool, and futuristic too. Here in Paris round shaped artworks have been around town too. Why would we all go for roundies these days?
Does this sculpture move or does it just give that impression??? Have I tumbled on a trampoline? Are you kidding?? Not in a LONG time.
I like these Public Art things, although Andy Rooney railed on about them last week on Sixty Minutes...
I enjoy public art, especially temporary displays because that means something new to discuss will be coming along soon. I'm fortunate to live in a small city that gives us public art.
I've never been on a trampoline, and good lord willing and the creek don't rise, I'll continue that run of good luck.
todd -- but of course Andy Rooney rails about pretty much everything. Will have to check it out. (Actually, just came out of that subway exit in the background the other day, and didn't even see this!)
Never quite like a circus artist, but our middle school did have a big trampoline, and those of us who were less gymnastic still got to experience simple maneuvers like bouncing from standing to sitting to standing positions. Pretty fun way to understand your body in space and gravity. There were safety buffers all around the thing, and one or two spotters. Not to worry.
No, I never have tumbled like a circus performer. Is whatever the hell that is really ART? Andy Rooney had a pretty good commentary about so-called Art within the last few weeks. He would not approve of whatever the hell that thing is. And I'd be with him on this one!
Nice shot Ming.....love the buildings in the background...I'm not so much a fan of modern art as you could well imagine being from the south...more of a nature lover I suppose...Perhaps they could drape some climbing roses here and there on that thing :)...hmmmm
Reminds me very much of a fish, or trio of fish in this case.
And yes, echinacea is a remedy I embrace when feeling the clouds descend below my eyebrows.
Never tumbled on a trampoline, but I do enjoy the changing installations at the square.
