Gazpacho

This bowl of gazpacho was from Le Pain Quotidien, the Belgian chain restaurant/bistro. I had my first gazpacho soup probably about 5 years ago at a french bistro and since then, it has been a love affair that knows no bounds. . . . except when it comes to me having to make it myself. :-) It is especially delicious during the hot summer months when the last thing I want to eat is a warm soup.

So do you have a favorite soup for winter and/or summer?

May I recommend the gazpacho at The Daily Cup in the Jonathan Benton Bookstore here in little ole Birmingham? The best. I agree it is way too much trouble to make at home. Just buy the darn stuff. Yours looks much more "high brow" than ours, but hey, it's NYC for pete's sake. ( Pssttt, Ming, what's that black stuff???)

I had a chilled red beet borscht last summer that tasted like it had some mint in it - fabulous! But there's also a Turkish yogurt-based cold cucumber soup involving olive oil and herbs that is also fantastic.

For hot soups, the list is very long. The Hungarians of the Zemplen region have a clear-broth wild mushroom soup, with big, beautiful slices of several different fungi collected in the hills, then seasoned with pork fat and paprika. On the other hand, nothing makes you feel well fed quite like a creamy chicken with wild rice and celery soup. I better stop there.

Hmm, Gaspacho soup? I have absolutely no idea what it is or what it tastes like, but it sure does sound...interesting! Hehe. Looks even better though!

I haven't yet talked myself into trying to make a soup from scratch, so it's the Stockpot from the can for me in winter! Starting to get a bit sick of it though, and so I should...today is the last day of WINTER! YAY!!!!!!!!!

Chilled cucumber soup with yogurt and dill! Also, I had a watermelon soup once that was amazing. It had its of lavender in it. It was made by an amazing Moroccan pastry chef. He closed that restaurant or I would go order it today!

Yes, I do have a fave—and this is it! The first gazpacho I ever had was almost 40 years ago in a little restaurant in a fishing village in Spain, where my brother and I lived for a while back in our "hippie" days. Must say, I've tried the stuff everywhere since and never had any quite as good. But I have had the Pain Quotidien version, and it comes pretty darn close. (Is this part of the lunch I missed?)

I like most soups....no favorite.
Maybe I prefer thick creamy soup during winter and clear Chinese soup during summer? :p

Guacamole cream soup with shrimp.

Pretty much as it sounds, with vegetable broth added.

Yummy.

I heart gazpacho for the summer but for the winter, I like to have 'sinigang', a Filipino soup my Mom makes the best, of course.

You know, I think it is super easy to prepare. Favourite soup? I'd have to say: la soupe à l'oignon de maman. :) Worth the trip!
