Installation in Progress

I saw this young fellow installing an advertising print on the window of a clothing store on Mercer and Howard Street in SoHo last weekend. It was a quick snapshot so I wasn't expecting anything special to come out of it. But when I saw the photo on my laptop, I found the most amazing reflection of the building behind him in the window.

The horizontal ladder in the reflection is actually the end/bottom part of the fire escape. In times of emergency, the ladder can be pull down until it becomes vertical so people can climb down to escape the building.

So how is the weather in your neighborhood?

These fire escapes would be useful on some older buildings here also. A nice invention and so typical for the "landscape" over there!

(The weather is "acceptable".)

Good pic, Ming, you certainly are a reflection catcher!
(This guy hasn't a bad "B" side...)

Nice idea. Good way to advertise. I like the concept.

I am 74 years old -- today is my birthday.

Fascinating. I so agree we can super surprises sometimes when look at photos on the computer. Your photo has so much interest, not least the juxtaposition of the leg and the guy fixing it up. And of course those reflections.

Ming, what an excellent accidental photo! What luck! And talent, of course!

I just saw your comment on my blog asking if it's possible to embrace more than one saint. Technically, no. "Your" saint is the one whose name you share...and that's that. Of course, you can worship as many saints as you like in your free time! ;-)

Btw, St. Ming (not to reveal your REAL name!) is celebrated on September 8. Keep it in mind next year!

It's sunny but damp over here in Molfetta these days...we could do with some rain real soon!

Valeria, I'm not sure you can talk about a person's "b-side" in English, although we do in Italian. Can anyone help me on this?

Is b-side = backside = ass???

What is wrong with checking out someone's b-side, not that I do that, of course.

Hi Ming! Nice picture, the reflection made a wonderful framing! It's a great weather here today! Late summer day!!
The rats are stunning! Excellent work!
Now, Blogtrotter just said goodbye to Mykonos 2007!! It shows the famous sunset scene at Little Venice, and the Pelican mascot of the island… ;)
Hope to read you there, and have a great weekend!

Oh heck, let's talk about backsides-HA If you had read PDP the other night you wouldn't be a bit worried. Whooooeeeee!

I love a reflection shot that works. Mine always clutter up the photo or distract. This is spot on Ming. Good for you!

PS Peter says the weather is "acceptable" . Hmmmm. Well it's got 22 days to improve!!!

I like the act you cought in this pic, Ming. And that reflection adds a more "explosive" element to the picture. Bravo!

love those fire escapes! we don't get the same kind of fire escapes here so they always remind me of the movies i've seen them in.

So, my question was linguistic, not moralistic...I meant to ask if in the States people use the expression "b-side" to talk about butts. It is widely used in Italian, but I don't know if it translates...

Here in Italy, side A and Side B was normally used for records: Side A main song, Side B he other one.
Lately, "Side B" is being used to indicate, actually, the back side of a person.
I understand that Saretta meant that in english it doesn't sound quite as subtle as it does in italian.

cool picture for sure! The weather here is beautiful! It is not too hot and not too cold. I love winters here! It's the summers that are hard on ya!

Saretta & Valeria: B-side is such a polite way of referring to the behind. I think we use "ass" here, like "Ohh...check out her ass!"

Not that I would ever say that (out loud).

blustery in islip today...was damp and very windy...and about sundown, began to lightly rain. the wind is blowing the tree branches across the metal grill of the air conditioner outside the window. not a good night to be home alone and watch a scary movie!

Very cool about the reflection showing up.

Multiple images in window reflections are high on my list of preferred images so this is great.

When I woke up this morning it was cold and foggy and then the haze burned off and we had a perfect fall day. Long sleeves, no jacket. Perfect.

It's a very nice indeed. A good shot comes unexpectedly sometimes.

I'm more intrigued by the way you've caught the guy holding the girl up on the window with his lift hand and arm extended. The other adds some urban complexity to the image, but the meat is this guy's posture and activity. Nicely done!

cool shot.... it's all about timing, isn't it?
