Bicycle, Taxi & Bus

My original intent was to take a photo of this interesting "structure" that was being used as a bicycle stand, whether it was installed there for that express purpose or not. When I got home, I saw that the photo was even more interesting because of the taxi and bus lining up next to it -- all three mode of transportation in one photo. If only I could PhotoShop a subway train into the photo, it would be perfect. :-)

So do you think the red iron structure here is meant as a bicycle stand?

Update: This "structure" is by David Byrne and yes, it is indeed meant to be a bike rack/stand.

It would appear to be the outline of a single high-heel shoe. Is it perhaps in front of a shoe store? I suspect the current use is probably a byproduct and not the original intention of the creator. Very clever, by the way.

Yes, I'm sure it is. There are companies that will make them in all kinds of shapes these days, to suit whoever is paying for them. Is there something nearby that might have a connection?

This really is a super case of serendipity, and even the bicycle fits with the clean primary color scheme.

Well, the high heel shoe sculpture was given an interesting use... ;)

Could it be anything else?

Don't think it was meant for the bike but seems to work just fine and great shot of all the transportations minus the subway:)

If a subway train ends up on your streets, be sure to tell us! ;D

Yes, I think so. Very apt too that it's a red, high-heeled pump. ;)

Looks like it could be a bike rack.

Coincidentally, NYC just selected the winner of it's bike rack competition this week....it's called "the hoop."

Definitely a stylized red shoe. This is an amazing capture with the three modes of urban transportation perfectly placed in the frame. Bravo!

It is one of the bike racks designed by David Byrne. http://www.davidbyrne.com/art/bike_racks/index.php

Way cool Ming! ;D If you hadn't told us I would've thought you had planned that photo!!

Strange things lurk in cities...like shoes holding up bikes! LOL!

When I first looked at the photo, I assumed you were taking a picture of FOUR modes of transportation! What a great shot!

Yey. Lovely blog, I'll be back. However, you shouldn't have commented at all on the brilliance of this picture. It speaks for itself. :)

I'm glad I came to this late so I could discover that it's a David Bryne structure. What a great idea! Your photo is fascinating, Ming.
