The little sign on the railing clearly stated,"No Bikes Allowed" and yet there are two bikes leaning on it with a third parked in front of the other two. So is happening here? This is actually an impromptu site for a bicycle rental service at Columbus Circle by the exit of the subway station. Ever since the city added bike lanes onto most major avenues up and down Manhattan, bike rental businesses (for tourists) have been popping up everywhere.
So when was the last time you rode a bike? I think I rode a bike about 4 years ago when I rented one to ride around Central Park. Going down the hill was definitely easier than going up one.

i can't even remember the last time my fat ass tried to ride a bike... i wanna buy one though, i feel like it'd be easier to get around my neighborhood.
I agree with Thwany's first sentence. No clue when I last rode a bike. That said, don't care if I ever ride one again. Been there, done that, my derriere doesn't fit the average seat anymore! Hail me a cab would you MIng???
Nice shot of those bikes though!!!
The last time was yesterday !So easy when u live in the town center ;)
My brand new seven speed has been fun to ride for the past month or so. But Willits is pretty flat. They make bike seats that are designed for the comfort of non-athletic adults nowadays, so no excuses.
I think renting bikes is really big business in some places and maybe with the economy of the administration it might be the way to go in NYC.
Seems a lot of cities are doing rentals on bikes. Some are even free and you just drop them off somewhere and someone else picks them up.
We brought our bikes with us to Florida, and I think we'll be going for a bike ride today, and it's sunny/cloudy, not really a beach day.
We are heading to Cape Canaveral to see the shuttle launch tomorrow. But not on our bikes, we'll be powered by the internal combustion engine this time.
Uhm,...I have no idea! It must have been many years ago...
I take rides in the countryside with my sons sometimes. More often they ride and I run.
I recently bought a new bike, but havent gone for a ride in awhile due to the wet weather. Oh you make me want to take it out right now. But it's 3am, haha.
well seen.
i have a bike and i go everywhere on it, often with my son on the back. it gets us to school and back every day, to the shops, to the park, to the station. you should all get one and use it...join the biking revolution! :)
The sign should be bigger!
We have bike hire in Cheltenham. Its free for the first half hour then you pay after that, you register before you use them. They are stationed around town and a code is sent to your mobile phone for you to unlock them. Very hi-tec for us!
I can't remember when I last rode a bike. I used to ride every day to work, then I passed my driving test. Now my bike gathers dust!
Hadn't ridden a bike in decades, then about 2 years ago I bought one used. Rode it home, hit a bump, killed my sciatic nerve & wound up going to physical therapy for as long as Oxford was willing to pay for it (not long enough, of course). Still have the bike, though.
Love the photo, Ming!
I went for a bike ride in Italy last year. So much fun!
it was too too long ago, that i don't remember when I last rode a bike.
you think any itchy hands will scratch away the "no" in the sign :-)
You should come to Paris and the 30 thousand bikes that are now available all over the place for a very reasonable cost! Very popular! ... and I use them quite often!
I rode my new bike once in Manhattan, and after dodging cabs and buses I decided to bring it upstate and leave it there.
one of my pet peeves is when people bring bikes on to a subway. I'm like, "if you have a bike, ride it."
the last time i was on a bike, was actually in your fair city...what an awesome experience that was. cycling across the brooklyn bridge at dusk....simply magic!
