Surgeon General's Warning

I saw this sign posted on the wall of one of the buildings in SoHo. It is a surgeon general's warning against cigarette smoking. However, there is no clinic or government building near the area. Most of the stores on the street are mostly art galleries and clothing boutiques. Also, it looked like an expensive copper plate so it is quite puzzling to see it there.

So have you seen anything odd lately?

Hmm, very odd indeed!

I haven't seen anything odd really, except someone trying to sell a single salt and vinegar chip on ebay for AU$25, just coz it was shaped like a heart!

I love it! They should post this outside every building, right where people stand with their cigarettes.

Probably put there by some eager non-smoking resident?

That is VERY interesting!! You should write to the NY Times and ask them whether they know the origin/history of this plaque!!

This is interesting, and I think is the most odd thing I have seen as of late. I live in Oregon, which as of this year is now legally "Smoke-Free". This new law prohibits smoking indoors and 10 feet away from any doors or windows, so I have been noticing a variety of smoke free posters...but none such as this.

It's kind of nice to walk down the street and come face to face with something that puzzles you.

Have I seen anything odd lately?
Only every time I look into the mirror!

A corner where smokers congregate and the building owner is seriously against tobacco! Hmmm… our university should put up signs like this in the few smoking areas left.

I used to be involved in ordering plaques like this for our local Historical Society and I know from experience that they are NOT CHEAP! It's a lot of money to spend for a sign against smoking!

The oddest thing I have seen recently was when I came home on Saturday night at midnight, there were 3 police cars parked outside my house. No policemen anywhere. Everything quiet. No-one on the street. I kepot looking out of the window to see what was happening, the 15 mins later, they were gone.... silently, the street was empty, as if they had never been there. I wonder what was going on......?

I don't think I have seen anything "odd", lately, or maybe I just don't remember.
This is quite a good idea. I'd place those signs everywhere!

That sign reminds of all the hypocrites I'm forced to deal with everyday. It is kind of sad how people line up to get into each other's business while claiming they live in a free country. There always has to be some group for everyone to ostracize. In the past it was women, blacks or gays. Now it is smokers. Tomorrow, what will it be, alcohol drinkers, fat people, people with cars? Just wait until the day that people who drive cars have to pay an extra $5 per gallon in excessive taxes. Just wait until a beer gets hit with $5 in excessive taxes to pay for park clean-ups. Just wait until the day when a Big Mac comes with an additional cost of $5 in taxes. This is what is coming, Folks. So, just keep pounding on the smokers. All you are doing is showing the government that there is money to be made in taxing lifestyle choices. Your day is coming too. Enjoy that cheap beer and chips now while you can.
