Theme Day: Paths & Passages

The theme this month is Paths & Passages. This photo shows the path (escalator) down to the subway station at Flushing, Queens and the passage through the arched turnstiles to the train further down below.

What do I see above the passages? Is that writing/small photos/something else? I love your site, and just saw today the mention of a theme. Do you do that every month? The photo is great, btw. I love seeing around NY. Thank you.

A man in a wheelchair wait for the lift, that's another passage...
Sheri, the mosaic above turnstiles is an mosaic artwork called "Happy World" by the korean artist Ik-Joong Kang.

Happy Theme Day Ming!

What does the express lane do? How is it faster than other lanes?

Love the feel of this photograph going down down down, to the trains. Good choice, Ming.

Cool photo, we loved the subway when we were in New York, so much cheaper than the London underground. Sorry haven't been on here for ages, have been ill in bed for over a week now but should be blogging soon.

The detail of the rivets adds to the modernist feel and really adds to the shot

I do so love this...and the metallic feel, with the "warmth" of mosaics is great. Your normal commuter station? Isn't Flushing where the US Open is played? (she asks as she watches Nadal and Federer slug it out)

Nice choice for theme day. I like it.

I played too but the link won't work to get to the main citydailyblog to get the link.

I wrote about the lack of access for disabled people in Manila, so I'm gratified to see the man in the wheelchair in your photo. Happy Theme Day!

I like the feel of descent into light in this version of Paths & Passages.

Very nice post, Ming. I never would have been able to see your train system or a part of it.

my Memories
I wrote in my Memories blog about the roads of my youth and how they were to travel in the winter time.

haha i used to go down these escalators everyday when i lived in flushing. i would ride the q12 bus to the mcdonalds next to pigeon alley (my friends and i made up that name) and go straight down these escalators and hop on the 7.

the only time i like to go to flushing nowadays if to go eat.
