Yesterday. When I went to the US Open (tennis) in '06 I was disappointed that that area seemed dilapidated. I remember going to the World's Fair there back in its heyday.
I recognize this immediately on the portal. Hard to believe it's been around for, what?, 46 or 47 years. I was about 13 when that World's Fair was going on and I lived in your neighborhood. My friends and I found a way to sneak in by crossing the Long Island Railroad tracks and hopping over an easy chain-link fence. So, we saw this over and over.
Last time I took a photo? Maybe three hours ago with my iPhone. I had my annual physical this morning and had to leave the usual specimen. There was a little metal cabinet in the wall of the lavatory with a hand scrawled sign that said "urine goes here." I thought it was funny but I don't think I'll put it on my blog.
Proves my mantra about the person thinking the image and the camera just being the vehicle to capture it. Outstainding image, down to the composition which is down to you.

I too spent a lot of time at that World's Fair—mostly at the Africa pavilion, to see Olatunje and the fabulous dancers who performed with him there.
Always have a camera w/me, but went out specifically to shoot last weekend.
This w.e. in DUMBO. Fun.
I need to go back to the Unisphere. I had a funny picture of it but can figure out where it is now.
