Cookie & Coffee @ The Mercury Dime

I met up with a friend for coffee at The Mercury Dime cafe in the East Village last week. Since I was early, I ordered the cappuccino first while I waited and read the newspaper, and when she arrived, I ordered a double french pressed coffee. Each order came with this cute little lace cookie. The coffee, unfortunately was not very good even though it was made fresh to order.

The best coffee in NYC, in my humble opinion, are found at La Colombe Cafe in Tribeca, Petal Belle in SoHo because they use the La Colombe brand of coffee, and Aubergine Cafe (in my neighborhood) that uses Irving Farm coffee. Irving Farm has its own cafes in the city but I have not visited one yet.

So what is your favorite brand of coffee or tea?

I like the coffee at Coffee Girl in Astoria, Oregon. I've forgotten what brand they use. The Astoria Coffee House here is a close second. Again, not sure of the brand. I just drink, enjoy, and be glad to be out for awhile. I'm also enjoying your blog. I've linked it to mine so I can see each updated photo.

Hee hee, that's why I said "Oregon" :) I don't know that much about Astoria, NY, but it comes up on my Google Alerts for Astoria, so I'm learning a little bit. It was named for the same Astor, I'm sure.

Ming, Oregon is GORGEOUS!!! I've lived here since 2001. You'll have to visit sometime. I'm going to be in NYC in early May. First goal is the Natural History museum, but maybe I'll go look for your great coffee :)

Aaaa, I kept a note of your suggestions, hoping that sometime I will visit NY,and then I would KNOW where to have the best coffee!!
Here in Athens most times you can not find a really good coffee.
Starbucks is very milky for me, but among the best here.
You can not choose a brand, just hope that the bartender is in good mood the moment you order...
Have a nice day!

Here In Ibiza I like to go to a place named "Croissant Show" ... and sometimes to a place named "Canadian".

At home I use "Illy" coffee.

And in summer I always go to hace coffee to an italian place, "Miretti" ... they've Ice Creams and Illy Coffee too.

Regards from Spain!

What a sweet little cookie!! Here, in Anchorage Alaska we have Kaladi Brothers outposts... I like their Red Goat and French Roast coffees. Their barristas are very service oriented and the atmosphere is cozy. Couches, tables, chairs, newspaers, etc. Have a lovely day!

Always espresso, often double! At home I drink Nespresso, not yet the commercial success in the US as here?

Here in Kuressaare, Estonia, my friend Bill (the other American in town) operates 3 wonderful restaurants. I go to his Cafe Bruno for my coffee break when I am in town shopping. He uses only Illy coffee and has a proper Italian espresso machine. I am truly spoiled.

Well, without bragging, it's quite hard to find a BAD coffee in Sydney! The country with the worst coffee in the world, in my experience, is, sadly the US, and nowhere more so than NYC. It shocks me that the huge Italian immigrant community didn't manage to introduce better coffee - but I think the critical difference is that Australia's Italian immigrants arrived later and brought the espresso machine with them. Sorry about that harsh critique!
Sorry I haven't been commenting much lately - combination of life circumstances. SDP has had a 3rd birthday and you're invited to the party!

Coffee... ICE CREAM! It's the only coffee-flavored anything I can stomach!

In that case you need to plan a trip to Roma - Italians make the best coffee ice cream in the world.

It's all good over here in Italy...but my favorite brand is Kimbo. That's a pretty skimpy little cookie there! Another strike against this establishment! :-)
