Ice skating at the Rockefeller Center Rink is a winter tradition for many New Yorkers and tourists alike. Each year between October and April, the artificial ice rink is open to the public from 8:30 AM to midnight. However, skating here can get pretty expensive. Ice skate rentals cost $7.50 per person and admissions are $10 - $14 for adults and $7.50 - $8.50 for children under 11 and seniors. The rink gets extremely crowded during weekends and holidays so the best times to skate are Mondays through Thursdays.The gilded statue in the background is Promethius, a smart and cunning Titan who, according to Greek mythology, stole fire from Zeus and gave it to the mortals because of his love for humanity. As a result, the word prometheous refers to someone or something bold and creative.

I never learned to feel comfortable on skates while I was a kid. I finally took a figure skating class when I was in my 20s. I loved it, because I started to feel good and learned "extras" like how to skate backwards. A few years later I fell while skating and broke my wrist. Since I use my hands for my work, I decided to give up skating. I like to watch it, though.

Well, I was going to say how much I miss skating there (I grew up on LI and in the holiday tradition, visited the RC to skate and window shop each year), but seeing the prices...Yikes!
As a kid living in Nebraska, the city gov't would flood the tennis-courts during the winter months - instant ice rink. Most of the neighborhood kids would meet and skate the days away. Great fun.
When I visit NYC and see the Rockefeller rink or the Trump rink in Central Park, I'm immediately taken back to those innocent fun days in Nebraska skating with my school friends.

I'd like to skate there someday.
I wanted to flood our orchard for a skating party this year, but it hasn't been cold enough. What's with this weather?? What do they do in NYC to keep the ice frozen? I know it's been warm there too.

I can't skate and I'm really afraid of falling on my bump or worst, breaking my wrist or ankle.

i can't skate, but i tried skiing before. boy, it's not easy. i got wet bums after falling so many times and sitting on my bum in the snow. haha...
