Queensborough Bridge

Fabrizio from Torino Daily Photo asked about the bridge seen in Woody Allen's movie, Manhattan (1979) and I promised I would post a photo of it this week.

Here is the Queensborough Bridge that connects Manhattan to Queens across the East River. Roosevelt Island is located right beneath the bridge.
A cable car/tram runs parallel to the bridge but it reaches only halfway to Queens. It connects Manhattan to Roosevelt Island.

This photo shows the pedestrian and bicycle lanes on the bi-level bridge. There are 5 lanes for automobile traffic on the left behind the guard rails and an additional 4 lanes on the second level.

In the photo, you can see the original concrete structure (right) built in 1909 and the iron support structure added later in the century.

Thank you very much indeed Ming. I love this superb bridge (especially considered when it was built) but what really let me fall in love with NY was "Manhattan" by W.Allen that I saw six time in two weeks when it came out in Italy. Lol

Great shot Ming! I agree with Fabrizio that «Manhattan» makes people fall in love with NYC. It's a pity that W. Allen decided to leave NY, but London also deserves a bit of talent, and Michael's Pub is no longer what it used to be, I was told...
Further to Michael's, I once stumble over W. Allen at Primavera’s front door on 1st Avenue. NYC experience... :))

Ming, what in the world do you DO in NYC? What allows you to travel all over to get these fabulous shots of the sites here and there?

You asked about my little dog's name. He's named Andy, after me.

Annie - New York City is very small and compact. Almost all the photos I have taken are within 2 mile from my apartment. For example, all the bridges in the recent photos are within 10 minutes from me.

Great perspective. I like the soft colors. Almost peaceful. I imagine a soundtrack from up there would instantly prove me very wrong on that point...

Great shot, Ming!

I saw your comment chez Nathalie - I love David Sedaris! Just remembering his French lessons makes me laugh out loud! And his trip to the hardware store...hilarious :-)
