Lunch Is Served!

This is one of my favorite lunches -- a tri-color salad mix made with bitter radicchio, sweet endive and peppery arugula, topped with some tangy goat cheese, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. The meal was served with warm rosemary focaccia bread dipped in extra virgin olive oil or EVOO.

Does that sound healthy or what? To be honest, I have atrocious eating habits. I eat a lot of hamburgers (medium rare) topped with bacon (salty & crispy) and served on a nicely toasted bun. And I like REAL hamburgers, not the nasty stuff they serve at fast food restaurants.

So do you have a favorite salad? Do you have a culinary vice?

Hey Ming, looks like you've got a knack with food photography too- maybe you should have a food blog as well! What do you think?

12h30 il est l'heure d'aller prendre son repas...merci, tu viens de m'ouvrir l'appétit. Je te souhaite une bonne fête du 4 juillet, en espérant des photos des feux d'artifices sur NYC

12h30 it is the hour to go to take its meal thank you…, you has just opened the appetite to me. I wish you a happy spend of July 4, by hoping for photographs of fires of artifices on NYC

I never ate a salad that I considered a meal. It always lacks something for me and my tastes. I like your photograph though and while I might eat it I would be greatly disappointed in the meal.

That looks wonderful. I just ate a salad yesterday. I really like putting cranberries in my salads too, gives it an extra flavor.

Your food photographs are brilliant, Ming! And this one hits the button with me. Just what I'd order. Looks wonderful and I know it would taste every bit as good.

My favourite salad: coeur de boeuf tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella, drowned in good olive oil and loads of fresh basil.

My culinary vice: pasta, pasta, pasta - every day!

V interesting link to olive oil.

it looks good but I think I'll choose the hamburger ;-)
I wish you a happy 4th july

Whoa!! That looks delicious!! Where are you eating that?

And I HATE the term "EVOO" because I can't stand Rachael Ray.

You described the perfect burger (I also like a bit of cheese on mine).

Fav salad: anything with avocado in it.

Culinary vice: too many to list! Homemade pasta with homemade creamy pesto sauce is one of them.

My friend Janet makes a spinach salad with boiled eggs and strawberries that is wonderful, and I also like a good Caesar salad. Don't worry, I have bad eating habits too. I like those big, handmade hamburgers and waffle fries...mmmmm....

For me, it's difficult to find food I like in NYC, to much bagels, to much sugar and fat and fast food...but this salad looks so good, give me your address!
About your yesterday post, I knew this man was not the owner of all these dogs (my God!) but I still don't understand how he does to make them so good and calm (Jilly wrote almost the same and she knows the topic!).

That does look good! Now I'm hungry :-)

Culinary Vice? Hmmm...does chocolate count? :-D

Ming, on my post today, what you can see on the rocks was seaweed. And I forgot to confess my "culinary" vice: chocolate!!!

This lunch looks delicious, Ming! The salad mix with rosemary focaccia bread sounds yummy! The picture is great, too!

Love salad so much! I don't eat red meat since ten years now, although I like it! But I think it's not healthy to me. My vice is chocolate! Love chocolate and also ice cream!

It certainly looks like a very good lunch meal to me!

... but my "problem" is that I like almost everything and also the in-betweens = a lot of favourite dishes + chocolates etc.... (But I try to control myself and then a cup of (N)espresso, a cigarette... is of course a (bad) substitute.)

Culinary vice? Caviar (Beluga 000)! I'll trade some real hamburgers against a small box (125 gr. will do). Deal? ;))
Happy 4th of July!

Your lunch is very healthy. In fact, I don't think hamburgers are unhealthy, if it's a piece of good meat between the buns.

OMG Ming - your lunch looks delicious.....aside from the goats cheese! Awesome photos too.

I love radicchio salads,EVOO and olives. I am SO hungry! :o(

What cafe/restaurant did you have this at?

Ming the Merciless said...

teahouse & belinda - The restaurant is a small little Italian place way out in Jamaica, Queens. I can't remember the name of it. I went there with my friend who drove so I don't even remember how to get there.

Jilly already described my perfect salad (and my vice too), but I always love a good Greek salad too - country style with no bread, just lots of feta, tomatoes, cukes & olives. Hard to beat.
Yours looks fabulous.

This would be my kind of food, although today I indulged in a very expensive hamburger! :-)

AlohaTrevella said...

oh yummy! Geez, now I am just starved! You people are just heck on my diet...throw some grilled chicken on that salad and it is just perfect for me. My culinary vices are really good cheese and olives with nice summer sausage or salami's...a anti pasto plate is perfect. But I really love a good crusty bread with quality olive oil and Balsamic vinegar...now I have to go eat!

hmmm. i have lots of favorite salads, but I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of spinach salad. i don't like that iron feeling you get in your mouth.

And I love any type of chicken salad.
