Public Fire Alarm System

This is a public fire alarm pole from the bygone era. There is one on almost every block in my neighborhood but I don't think they work anymore. Most new apartment buildings have either sprinkler systems and/or indoor fire alarms.

For a closer look at the instruction about how to activate the alarm pole, click here.

"The holy grail! We have found it," one dog to the other. "And it's not buried underneath a church. You first,I insist." ;-)

Love these old relics of yesteryear...a lot of character. I wonder how often it is tested.

Coltrane - You are sooo right! I think the poles are now used primarily for the dogs' entertainment. :-)

I love all these old pieces still hanging around the city :) It's so nice to see them. Where I live, there is still an existing old loo down the street. It is a circular form. :)

I love how you're *sticking out of the manhole* ^-^ .
You should test whether this fire alarm still works or not...for the blog, you know!

(Saying *hi* from Tokyo. I have been reading your blog for months now. Excellent and interesting work!)
