Cheese Aisle at Grand Central Station Market

This is the cheese aisle at the Grand Central Station market where I like to shop when I'm invited to dinner. Since I don't cook, I usually offer to bring a selection of cheeses and fruits for the host/hostess.

Next to the cheese aisle are the sausages and deli meat section and the bread and dessert section. Last summer, some friends and I stopped by here to get some cheeses, sausages and bread before heading to Bryant Park for an inpromtu picnic. Oh and there is a wine section at the market too.

For me, cheese was an acquired taste. I didn't grow up eating them so I don't like stinky cheeses until I went to France in 1996 where my friend introduced me to them. Since then, I love all kinds of cheeses. My favorites are Greek feta and chèvre (fresh goat cheese).

So what are your favorite cheeses?

I just wrote something about cheese too - it being an acquired taste esp. blue cheese. I like blue cheese with plain crackers. Cream cheese with bread, and melted burnt mozzarella.

Trust that the French cheeses are not boycotted any more? I'm lucky to have a big covered market place very close to where I live (one minute's walk) + some cheese shops. I have also learnt to love cheese - normal after 34 years in France. But I often buy also Italian, Spanish, Greek... cheese. When will we get some American cheese here?

What a wonderful idea for a take along gift for one's host. I shall do that next time instead of the traditional bottle of wine I usually offer.

yummy, I did NOT need to see this first thing in the AM. I love cheeses like gorgonzola and blue, the stinkier the better. I have a soft spot for Brie, though.

Cheese is my favourite food. Canadian cheese, Swiss cheese, French cheese... mmmm... Reblochon, or Pont l'Eveque, and I love Roquefort, well, let's face it, any cheese at all, be it stinky and strong, or mild and creamy, I love 'em all!

Oh Murray Cheese, right? I loooove stopping by Grand Central Market. Great place. Dangerous place.

I like pretty much all kinds of cheeses. I always have. Hated goat cheese as a kid but I do love it now. I think I'll make a little salad, rapberry vinaigrette (very easy to do), cherry tomatoes, olives and some fresh goat cheese. Come on Ming, you don't need to cook to prepare that! It's just associating a few products. You should try!

Lately, Smoked mozzarella in an alfreda sauce

What choice you have in NYC Ming! Being a pisces (indecisive) I wouldn't know where to start!

I love Greek fetta, but am not a fan of goat or sheep's milk cheeses. I find the flavours too strong.

Blue cheese is my favorite. Stilton in particular.
