Chinese Toys on Strings

These little toys are Chinese puppet lions on strings. Personally, I think they are more for decorations than actually play toys because a kid can easily tear them apart within 5 minutes. They are made of paper and stick-on fur and beads.

When you were a kid, did you have a favorite toy? Where is the toy now?

A favorite toy? Hmmm. That's an interesting question, Ming. From when I was 3 to when I was 10, or so, we lived in trailers, in 26 different states--my daddy's job building cooling towers led to that state of affairs. I suppose my favorite toy was my little brother because he was the only constant--we played all sorts of games indoors and outdoors, we shared a bicycle, we played with our Roy Rogers ranch set, slinkies, toys like that. I also remember my dollhouse and Betty Crocker oven. As for where are these toys today, the only one I know the whereabouts for is my brother. Howard is in Mississippi, our home state we returned to when Daddy left the cooling tower company.

Very beautiful toys, Ming!

My favorite toys were dolls! But since I was a kid I love books, too! I have till today a little horse that my Dad brought to me from NY. Someday I will photograph it and show up on my blog. You just gave that idea!

Have a nice Sunday!

I had lots of dolls.....but I think my favorites were Barbie and Ken. Barbie had entire wardrobe, complete with shoes for every outfit, though Ken's closet was limited to a few suits.....maybe that's why I have such a passion for clothes.

Now that's the toy store for me! Simple nice and low cost. Just look at the toy motor cars, too.

Those puppets cld become "old favourites" hanging in a grown up kid's room 25 yrs from now.

A favourite toy?
I loved my doll Suzanne. She had blonde hair until I washed it for her, then it all fell off and she was bald, until my mum and I went to a doll repair shop and we bought a RED wig for her (to match my own red hair) and my mum glued it on.... oh Suzanne was so lovely, she had blue eyes that opened and shut a a little red mouth, my mum eventually gave her away, I wonder where she is now?

I had a doll that my mom's friend made for me. She looked like a Cabbage Patch Kid, but much better made. Really exquisite. I also liked my Shrinky Dinks..remember those?

I love the idea of toys as decoration!!

Any toy with which you can tell stories: playmobils, legos, ... not too big on dolls though. But if I listen to my parents, my favorite toys were ridiculously simple - I used to create entire stories using lego cubes as characters. Kids don't need expansive toys. They have the best thing in the world: imagination.

my favorite toy when I was small was a little stuffed cat on a heart pillow, I slept with it in my bed every night until I was 28...then I moved to be with the love of my life and I no longer needed it....though she now resides in a small "emergency bag" in case I ever need to go to the hospital...she is there.

I don't remember having a favorite toy. I thought I would only such chinese lion-headed toys during Chinese New Year?

I had this plastic treehouse which housed an entire plastic family, complete with pet dog and family car. I loved it, especially as I could carry it around when the treehouse was all closed up, "storing" the family. No idea where it is now though unfortunately :o( Geeee.....haven't thought about that in years. What a great topic Ming!

Love the paper dragons - do you guys have dragon dancing during Chinese New Year celebrations?
