Wooden Chandelier

This beautiful chandelier made of wooden branches covered with crystal drops and a deer antler base hangs above one of the exits at the Grand Central Station. I have tried many times to photograph this light fixture but can never capture the essense of its beauty. For some reason, this is one object that looks better in real life than in photographs.

So has this ever happened to you where you cannot seem to capture the beauty of a scenery or object on film (or digital format)?

I've always wanted to have one chandelier in my room.Just because I want the lights from the crystals reflected onto the wall. The one in the picture is something like what I imagined to have.Very artsy.

That situation always happens to me.I just don't remember when.

This is a cool picture - makes me wonder how pretty it must be for real if you're sure it didn't capture the beauty.
I have definitely had pictures that didn't come up to reality.

This is wonderful! And yes, I've often had pictures that didn't do justice to the reality of the scene, especially under low lighting. It always makes me marvel at the amazing machine that is the human eye.

all the time.

i usually delete pictures like that bc i'd rather hold onto my visual memory, rather than the bad photo.

What a bizarre chandelier. Quite mesmerising, but don't like to think how many deer were killed to create it! :o(

I'm not the world's greatest photographer, so I often take photos that don't do the subject justice!

Yes it happens many time. I get frustrated 'cause it's my fault not to have the right eye sometime. But what it's worse than this is when you think to have captured exactly the scenary and at home you realize that it's a poor pic.

By the way I love this your photo because it let understand how beautiful it should be in real.

Ooo... I thought they were frozen ice! till i read your write up.

Yes, I can never take nice and delicious pictures of steamed fish! They always don't look nice on photos.

This should remind us of looking up and down, not only straight forward! You can find some fantastic things!

Of course, I have the same problem as you, but I have no pretention of being a real photographer. I just push the button (everything on "auto") and sometimes it comes out well, sometimes not...

This chandelier is stunning. And it's at Grand Central Station!!! Has it been there long? I don't remember seeing it when I was in NYC, but that was quite a while ago. OOOohhh I WANT IT!
Ans in answer to your question, yes, if a pic doesn't satisfy me, DELETE!

How unusual, and what a place to find it! It looks like it belongs in some celebrity's posh cabin in the woods!

While the picture was loading, I saw rain drops in a flash! Nice photo.
Recently, I saw ceiling lights made out of elk(or maybe deer) antler's base.

It's so interesting, Ming, and I'd love to take your photo in hand while going to see the real thing, comparing the two.

As for me, I've always done justice to every photo scene I have ever taken - NOT.

On looking at this a second time, I think the chandelier is made of a huge tree root.

I know exactly what you mean. It is a very pretty chandelier. It is so gracile and light. It owns the entire space. I tried to capture it too. It is just so difficult. If you take it in th room, you miss the great details. If you take it too close up, you don't see how gracile it is and the effect it has on the space. You did a good job!! And I like that you described your frustration.

I think this is beautiful. As others say it must be incredible if you see it as more beautiful than you can photograph. Yes I agree tho that some objects, things, views are more beautiful in reality than can be photographed. But hey, the opposite is true too. We can make things more beautiful than perhaps they are!

I love this! I actually saw a deer antler chandelier in an antique shop in Cold Spring, NY. I do think one would have to have a certain decor for it to fit in!

I've tried to capture that piece myself... You did a very good job!

Although your capture is fantastic I totally agree with you that we take pictures sometimes that don't favor the original. Sometimes because we don't have room or it was not sharp or simply we weren't able to capture all the subtle secrets of light. I think sometimes is a gear problem and some other times is due to a bad choice of settings. We do all we can and that's what count. If we were able to take marvelous shots all the time we would be pros and making big money. The chandelier is awesome and you captured every aspect of it enough to make us marvel at its beauty. Thanks so much.
