Gifts from Australia

Here are the gifts I received this weekend from my friends and fellow bloggers from Perth, Australia -- Carol of Oh! For the Love of Food and Belinda of Bel's Fish Bowl. Belinda is (still) in New York City for vacation and she brought along some gifts for me from Carol and herself as well. So I would like to thank them both for the generous and thoughtful presents.

In the photo, you will notice a small bottle of Vegemite. Can you guys tell me what is the best way to eat it? Spread over toasts like butter? Dissolved in soups like chicken bouillon?

"He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich..."

Just spread it on some bread, I say!

I've only heard of Vegemite. If I find out it reduces cholesterol, I'll have to add it to my oat bran, guar gum and rice bran cooking plan :)

Ming,
I hate to say this but I hate vegemite...I guess it's an acquired taste so not everyone will love it. In Sillypore, the equivalent is 'Bovril'. It tastes...........

Hey Bud, Hope the chopsticks will come in handy. To tell you the truth, I don't like Vegemite. It tastes similar to Bovril and marmite, if you've ever tasted them, but much less tasty. ( sorry, Bel!)
Your best bet on how to eat it, is dont. Put it somewhere along with your decor pieces, the label is made to give a vintage feel, not unlike those old, slim clear bottles of coke;o)

I usually add some Vegemite in porridge/congee. Just in time for cooling weather.

Chris says...it's majorly DISGUSTING! Apparently they treat it similar to the way we have those little cheese and cracker packs...ya know with the little red spreading sticks..?

I haven't a clue.

Don't laugh, but the first thing that came to my mind when I read "Vegemite" was that I Love Lucy episode where she takes the Vita-Veta-Vegimen stuff and gets a little plastered. That, alone, would keep me away from it, amd, after reading most of the above comments, I think that would be wise. :)

Vegemite... is that he vegetarian version of the Marmite thing? If so, really not my cup of tea.

I hate to say it, but that stuff is nasty. But if you're adventurous, just have it on some toast.

Like Tigerfish, I like my Vegemite (Marmite or Bovril) with plain rice porridge. Used to be my fave when I was young! And still is!
