Saturday Lunch at the Aubergine Cafe

I went to the Aubergine Cafe for lunch on Saturday because my favorite neighborhood restaurant went out of business recently. Since this was my first time here, I took out my camera and shot a dozen or so photos before my lunch arrived. Here is a macro shot of my meal -- honey mustard ham and brie on a baguette with a side salad with balsamic vinegarette and a large glass of iced coffee with milk.

So what did you have for lunch this weekend?

Lunch was dim-sum brunch for me!

It looks absolutely delicious! My lunches were not much to write about, but my Italian dinners were wonderful!!

Yesterday Mama, Leland and I went to Biscuits Cafe, a couple of blocks away--I had pancakes and link sausage. Today I made chili which turned out pretty good even if I do just combine an onion, ground beef and several different cans of Southwestern/chili/spicy beans and tomatoes--nothing from scratch.

About Flexcar, here's a bit I learned from the ad on the back of the magazine. For $35 per year, plus the hourly fee that their ad says is typically $10 an hour, Flexcar offers you your choice of car types to use for errands, travel, whatever. The rate covers gas, premium insurance, 24/7 roadside assistance and maintenance of said car. It certainly sounds interesting to me.

I had a homemade salami and lettuce roll on both days of the weekend.

This looks gorgeous, though i prefer Turkishbread - find it hard getting my mouth round the crunchier baguette!

Brunch on Saturday was French toast made with pannetone, with autumn raspberries, creme fraiche and maple syrup.

I generally don't like honey mustard anthing, but your sandwich looks good.

Really good photo, Ming. They do an egg chive something or other - I'll have that please. Love the name of the place.

I wanted a Salade Monstreuse in the village yesterday but cos it was a Fete day you had to eat from the menu - so I had crudites and then cheese ravioli. too much tho for lunch - buuuut, I'm not complaing.

Looks delicious, and it's making my mouth water with anticipation!
Lunch for me is usually some salad and warmed up leftovers from yesterdays supper, if there is any!

Nothing for lunch nearly as good sounding/looking as that!

We had lots of french baguettes with just brie or ham & cheese while we were away over the summer. Yum!

Since Sunnyside is one of the tags, I'm guessing this is on Queens Blvd. Worth checking out the next time I'm in the area? It looks much more fit for human consumption than the monsters at the Stage or Carnegie.

I had a "jambon beurre" (like yours but without the brie) at Bouchon yesterday! And a macaron for dessert, which looked much better than it tasted.

Where was your favourite brunch place? Sad that it closed. :(

Oh and I wanted to add a little something about those financiers: if they know how to make them, it has absolutely nothing to do with a cupcake. A cupcake is a very basic cake, just dressed nicely - nothing fantastic beside being esthetically cute. Whereas a financier has the form of a mini cake, but flatter, and is made with almonds. Quite rich. The one I am familiar with and which you can find in every bakery in Belgium looks like the first picture here.
